Found $1.24 in ordinary change and a Canaidan nickel in the Coinstar reject slot tonight. What I'd like to know is why people even leave their change behind, I can understand them leaving behind a few pennies or a dime it won't accept (which usually turns out to be silver) but an entire handful of change still boggles my mind.

The only reasons I can think of is that they never hear the coins dropping due to other noises, they got interrupted while dumping their coins (Phone, kids, etc.), may be just too high in class to want change, or finally....just stupid. I wish that I had a record of how much I've found over my lifetime (I've been putting my hands in 'change bins' of telephones, pop, cigarette, and candy machines for close to 50 years). Also, I don't think I've ever dropped a penny and didn't stop to pick it back up; and no, I'm not ashamed of being cheap.  Edited by atticguy

Mr. Click: You might call me stupid but at the rest area/rest stop on the Interstates with the new soda machine's that can accept one dollar coins and give them out I always look under them to find a free dollar!

I would never call anyone stupid.  When I was in high school after football practice I would look under all the vending machines to find enough change to buy a can of soda. Everyday I found enough. I'm a professional scrounge and have no shame  |

Coin collector that 1968 quarter is the best impersonator of silver I've seen it deserves keeping for its uniqueness
