No luck with coinstars so far but an odd story:
I used the self-checkout the other day, didn't notice anything walking up, scanning or paying with a card. When the receipt was coming out I SWEAR I heard a slight hint of change being dropped (which wouldn't make sense), looked down and there was $0.26 that someone ignored.
Nothing special but plain money and I don't know if it's just the hunting mentality hearing that sound or it actually did shoot some change out.
It would be a better story if the coins were out of the ordinary but I use the self checkout quite a bit and have never heard that OR found left change.

I found $1.52 plus a Canadian quarter today. Haven't posted to this thread since August, but I figured I might as well do a year end wrap-up, even though I usually require silver to post. Total US coinage - since Aug 19, $5.13 including 8 quarters, 25 dimes, 4 nickles, and 43 cents. With: 6 wheaties (all common dates) 1 2009 birth place cent (tough to find in the wild) 10 copper Memorial cents and 26 zinc cents Foreign coins: 2 Canadian toonies 2 Canadian quarters A 1967 Canadian centennial penny and a 2006 penny And this stuff: And some more tokens: PS: I put $13.58 into the Salvation Army kettle last week. Money I found - more than half in Coinstar machines. I now have a nice headstart on '17.

Quote: I thought that was $28 at first, but then noticed the decimal point.
Try throwing in a leading zero next time! Oh man I wished I could find $28 in change... That would be awesome... Think I might need a couple of bags to carry it out though...

Maybe it is like feeling those phantom vibrations from your phone even when your phone is nowhere near your body. Quote: I found $1.52 plus a Canadian quarter today. With the wife at Walmart yesterday morning making a couple returns and a guy was dumping some change into the coin star. I noticed him reach into the reject bin a couple times to try to put the coins back in again. After a couple times he gave up and left the coins in the bin to my delight. He took his receipt and walked away. I waited for him to get far enough away so I didn't look quite like a vulture. Lo and behold, 2 rosies and a canadian penny. I forgot to post this but I got 5 rosies a couple weeks ago from a retail register. That makes 7 silver dimes in the span of 3 weeks with very little effort. Not to bad for a guy who doesn't even roll hunt dimes.

That's great. I guess that guy really hates holding onto change. Why not pick them back up and use them when possible? I have had no luck since November...

While at Wegmans today, I saw a couple throwing money away cashing coins in the Coinstar machine. I struck up a conversation and they said this was all the change they had accumulated this year. I noticed the husband kept reaching into the reject bin, so I told him that the coins that kept getting rejected were either old, beat up, or foreign. He ended up giving me some of the foreign coins, along with a Canadian penny after all was said and done. Total amount of change: over $700 which equates to $70+ down the drain in processing fees.

Another picture worthy find happened today! While I was getting food from Shoprite, I noticed a woman and a girl around my age dumping change into the Coinstar machine. I walked around the bakery and occasionally glanced in that direction waiting for them to finish, and when they did, there was over $88 in change dumped in (only $80.07 after fees) and sure enough, nobody bothered checking the reject slot, so I snagged everything leaving me with $1.05 in change, a Euro penny, a British pound, a button, and 2 of those flattened souvenir pennies you see at tourist attractions! (these ones were from Disney World so the family probably went there at some point) Edit: I later went to my grocery store closer to me and found another penny, a British penny, and a 1946 dime this time around!
