I've seen children checking the reject bin lately so I'm hoping the youngsters are getting coins that will make them collectors and keep them interested in the hobby.

I need to ask a really dumb question. This Coinstar theme. You put coins IN, it counts your amount, and cuts you a check, minus fee. I know this, as I have used them for years. How do people find coins in these things, the tray underneath is only accessable to workers, not the public, right?
I'd search those trays all day long, if I had a way to haul em home!
Thanks in advance.

These are coins in the small reject chute below and left in the top tray.

Or, I guess, maybe even on the ground below the machine?

Made an early run to VONS this morning to get the wife some coffee and asprin. As I was walking out past the coinstar I HAVE to glance in the reject tray, and low and behold... 1942-S War Nickel!

I don't know much about the inner workings of Coinstars but I was wondering if it is possible that someone else's rejects could get stuck somewhere inside and come out the reject chute when the next person uses it.

I know for a fact that has happened, it has happened to me on a couple occasions on different machines.

I am meticulous about checking my change and I dump at CoinStar to refill my Apple iTunes account. I always check the return bin first and have then found silver US coins, foreign and Canadian coins and the occasional coin of a type I did not dump be returned.

That being said, I have found CoinStar machines to be particularly accurate the times when I knew exactly the amount I put in. Just yesterday I had $68.98 counted, exactly as I had counted myself the night before. I actually had exactly $70 but it returned 2 cruddy pennies and 4 dinged up and bent quarters that I found in various CoinStar reject bins over the last few months. I tossed the pennies in the trash and spent the quarters at McDonalds, perhaps the only time I have spent coins in over a year.

Thanks n9jig. I had an inkling that it was plausible but wasn't positive from my own experience.
