Found 2 foreign coins at the Walmart coinstar the other day. Not in the tray, but on the countertop to the right hand side. A 1 cent Euro from Germany and a 2007 Canadian Nickel. The nickel filled a hole in my son's book, so I'll take it!

Not really a coinstar find more of a coinstar story, but anyhow dumped some pennies at the grocery store coinstar for Amazon gift card and I was halfway through and the machine just stopped working. A message came up and said I had to get a customer service rep. So the lady came over with the key to the machine and opened it up to see what the problem was and she dumped the tray of dirt and other debris and then looked at the counting mechanism and saw a dime totally jammed the machine. I didn't have any dimes so it must have been in the hopper when I started. So she got a pair of pliers and unjammed the dime and the machine started working again. Because of the malfunction I had to take a cash voucher and she waived the fee. The best part of all of this is when she first opened the machine I saw this small cup on the ledge of the door with all kinds of coins in it. I wanted so bad to see what was in this cup as I saw an Ike on the top of cup. It looked like it was the oddball stuff or coins that somehow find there way out of the hopper and they may put them in there until brinks or whoever comes services the machine. Either way I was over the sight of this mysterious cup!

Yeah, I always jam my banks poor coin counter with my 1000 half dollars. Jammed coins go into that special tray.

I found a well worn 1952 Canadian Quarter in a vending machine coin return. Also, I went on the Coinstar website to find all their machines in my area. I may need an intervention.

Nice! old Canadian silver is fun! I'm aware of the location of over 25 coinstars, so I may need an intervention someday too.

As soon as I went into the grocery store, a young boy probably around 10 and his mother were dumping some change into the Coinstar. Despite reaching onto the floor to pick up their dropped coin jars, neither of them took the rejected coins, so I jumped as soon as they were gone!

Interesting coincidence with finds today, as I managed to find 42 cents in American and Euro change! Nothing special in the US change but with the Euros, I got 2 20 cent pieces and a 1 cent pieces, a dime from the Dominican Republic, a nickel from Ireland, and a 2 Rand coin from South Africa! I guess that kid's family isn't too concerned about saving change from foreign countries they probably visited!
Rest in Peace

Hey, you mean anyone can check the reject trays on these machines? If so, daughter works at a grocery where she puts all the stores change in, have to ask her to snag it! BTW, I return all my search coins to my bank, just like businesses if you have an account, the service is NO CHARGE...know those kiosks have a fee, some pretty steep!

I started checking the Coinstar in my local Safeway since August and I had no luck until early December. I found a quarter, nickel, 5 canadian cents, 2 american ones, and a 5 pence coin.

General Question...

I've heard that you can actually purchase coins from the Coinstar machine if it is a model that deposits the coins into individual denomination bank bags vs. a big bin. My questions are: How do you know what type of machine it is? Who has done this in the past and did you meet any resistance?

Last week I found a 1990 UK 5 Pence coin and a 2004 East Caribbean States 2¢ coin in my bank's coin counting machine reject tray, which is a nice change of pace from the usual corroded LMCs!
