Heres a new one I just got in the mail. These were quick images and are lacking a bit. This one is slated for a 7070. Tell me what ya think on grade.

Thats a beauty.I would guess AU55.The only wear I'm seeing is on the stars and maybe Miss Liberty's high points although its hard to tell with the toning.

I struggle with toned coins as well. Thus, I will say this coin is at least an AU-50, although it could be higher. Nice pickup!

My first though is, 55. My second thought is, I want the one in my 7070 to look just like it.

Reverse looks really good. Obverse brings it down just a tad to 55

I'm not going to attempt to grade this one, but I would like to know what keeps it out of MS? TLS, are you referring to the look of wear on the right set of stars? I guess I just get confused with the notion that only one side of a coin will get noticeable wear, and I'm only talking about the right and left side of the obverse, not even considering the reverse looking MS.

I was pretty much going off of the stars and what looks like light wear on her left leg. Of course this could have been a stike characteristic for this coin so my whole opinion is poo-poo.

Thanks for all the opinions.
I would like to think this coin is au 58. I feel the weakness in the stars is strike related. There are slight traces of rub on libertys high points.
I liked it because of what I feel are very original surfaces, with some luster remaining. And nice eye appeal.
The consensus seems to be 55 which is what I paid, so I'm good with that.
Thanks again for the grades.

Tbar, It could very well be AU58.I don't believe any of us are professional graders. I guess the only way to tell would be to submit it and then you would probably get two different grades from two different grading companies.

BEAUTIFUL coin, and I agree that it is a nice, strong and original AU. The 1859 is one of the best-produced of the antebellum Seated quarters, and is an ideal choice for typesets.
