I just bought this one on ebay for a "buy it now" price that was way under what I believe its worth. I'm afraid it might have been listed with the wrong price, but I'm a happy camper.

I have to confess, I'm a little worried about the neck porosity. Between that and the stuff between the O in ONE and the C in CENT, I can almost visualize a corroded coin that had been cleaned and darkened.
OK. Enough pessimism. Beyond all that, I'm looking at what I think to be a barely circulated AU58. Not knowing them that well, I'd believe an expert pronouncing it Mint State.

Dave, I don't believe the neck area is porosity, but contact marks.you could be right about the reverse though. For the price,I thought it best not to ask any questions. I don't believe its been cleaned.I bought this from a dealer that I buy from a lot,and he always list coins cleaned,if they have been.

I agree with the AU-58 grade but what is on the reverse at 6 o'clock between the ribbon and rim? Its tough to tell in the photo.

If those are contact marks on the neck, that's an awful lot of them. I searched Grellman's book on the Late Date Large Cents for a variety of the 1853 that has that kind of roughness on the neck (along with other rough areas) but to no avail. There are some varieties that have roughness in the fields in later die states, but not on the neck. I gotta go with Dave on this one. With those photos, it looks like corrosion to me. Higher resolution larger pics might tell a different tale, though.

I guess it does not matter at this point. The dealer is crawfishing on the sale saying the coin was sold in store.I was wondering how he was going to get out of the deal.I bought it for $13.00 as a "buy it now" I knew it was to good to be true.

TLS, I bet he meant to list it at a BIN of $130, not $13. However, he should have paid more attention to his own listing instead of trying to claim that "it sold in store."

Wow! If you got that for $13 you would have been my ebay hero!

I would have been more understanding if he would have just told me it was listed incorrectly. This is the second time this same thing has happened with this dealer. And both on Large Cents.

I think you should definitely file a report, or demand the coin. Not your problem even if it was listed incorrectly. But to make an excuse, most likely because they didn't get the price that they want, is not acceptable!!
Good or bad, doesn't sound like a dealer you want to keep buying from IMO.

tights, I understand what your saying.I buy 75% of my coins from them and they have gave me some exellent deals in the past,so I'm in no hurry to end my buying relationship with them. Its just frustrating when they back out of a sale.Maybe if they had to honor the sale they would be less likely to make the same listing error again.

You know, after I reread my post, I thought that exact thing. Well, it still stinks, but if it's a good dealer, that's a toughy.
Who knows, there's a chance they will feel guilty and you may get a screamin' deal next time?

I had purchase a slabbed Morgan with the Large Cent and paid for both at the same time.He has already refunded the Large Cent payment,my shipping and part of the Morgan payment. Terry

Oh, snap!
Well, you can plan on seeing another excellent deal from them in the future if you're a gentleman about this one. For $13, I wouldn't care if it was corroded, cleaned and redarkened, but there are nicer ones out there.

Oh, dear. Now I see why you're unconcerned about the '53.
