I don't have sufficient time-in-grade to trade here....

But you decided to ask anyways? Be sure to check out the RULES when you get a chance

I apologize, but I think there was a misunderstanding here. I'm looking for advice on how to make a trade outside of this forum. For example, maybe someone knows of a brick & mortar shop local to me here in Southern California that would do something like that. Or maybe someone could point me in the right direction to seek out a local collector's club that may be a good possibility. Maybe some other expert advice. I honestly thought that it was clear on my post that I was just looking for some assistance, and then I would do the actual leg-work myself. I'm new here, and you don't know me, but I honestly was just looking for a little help so I can continue to honor my soon-to-be fourth child the way I have my previous three. Please do me a favor and remove this post completely so your condescending reply won't continue to be viewed. Thanks, -John

John D, it's possible there was a misunderstanding regarding your motives. We never delete anything here, we just put it somewhere the membership can't access it so I've read your original post. The way your original post was worded was precisely how one would ask the membership to engage in trading off-forum. That's what the term "off-forum" means. And that's why you received the reaction you did, except for the part where we usually summarily ban someone who posted what you did.

But the remote possibility existed that your intentions were honorable. Understand, we ban a couple people a week for doing exactly what you did - joining and almost immediately asking to engage in commerce. Some (very) few of them might have been honorable, most were certainly malicious and we cannot afford to differentiate in order to protect our membership.

Had we left your post intact, 90% of the membership would have drawn you over red-hot nails for posting it, and the other 10% would have done something requiring us to discipline them as well as yourself.

I can restore your post any time I want, and let the membership decide what they thought you said. You probably wouldn't like that.

Hi John D,

To be honest, your initial post is very vague. For people to be able to help you, you should be more precise/clear next time.

I have never heard of trading as in exchanging coin for coin in person in SoCal - I also have never participate in one. There are very few coin club in the LA Metro area to facilitate trading either - I am not a member in any of those few clubs (too far away for me). However, if you mean trading as in selling your extra coins and buy what you need from dealers then there are plenty of them around SoCal, there are also quite a few coin shows throughout the year. You can google search the coin shows and the dealers.

It's very hard to explain to you in regarding the aspect of evaluating your certain coin for a value and then trade for the coin you need in a few lines. There are many aspect you need to know/learn to do such thing (trading/selling/buying). The best recommendation I can have for you is to hang around, do a lot of reading on this forum, accumulate the knowledge and the required post and then do some trading on here. There are many good people that are more than willing to help but you will need to get the basic knowledge about coin collecting/grading/value/trading on your own first. I've join this forum for more than 4yrs and still learn by reading every day.

Good luck and enjoy.

I always appreciate getting the benefit of the doubt, which I've clearly gotten because I was able to log-in today, though I'm puzzled by the choice of words "remote possibility" above.

First impressions are lasting ones and I'm the alien here, so if anyone wants to shoot me an e-mail I will gladly reply with a scanned image of our "Letter Seeking Confirmation from Adopter", or more commonly known as the "Letter of Acceptance" showing our soon-to-be-daughter's birth date in 2010. We will be out of the country meeting our new daughter for the first time some time in October or November - no final travel dates yet. I will also gladly share with you photos of our other three children (born in 2005, 2007, & 2009) and the Silver Proof Sets & Silver Eagles I purchased for them, still in the original packaging.

Maybe there is only a 10% chance that a new member's intentions are honorable in a situation like this. If so, that's too bad. I typically expect the best of people unless they prove otherwise, not the other way around.

Regardless, thanks again for giving me the benefit of the doubt.

I think Superdave's estimate of 10% is high. I am new to the forum but have watched for months. The reason I did not join earlier is the majority of new members are trying to take advantage of a group of knowledgable and passionate coin collectors. Just my 2 cents where its not wanted.
