First, I did a search on this subject and did not find the answer I was looking for.
I got the registered mail/insurance thing down, but what other tricks or advice do you have?
The coins I want to be graded/slabbed are now in airtight plastic holders, will they return those holders to me or is all that packaging a loss? Should I put them all in those 2X2 folders? Should I tape them down to a stiff cardboard piece or what? Do I need to wipe-down or clean them in any way or will they do that,(my concern is finger prints, dust, etc....).
As you can tell I am pretty green at this so any/all advice will be gladly accepted.
Thanks to all, Paul.

Whatever you send them in will disappear. I generally use mylar flips, but 2x2's will work.

Very good idea, as long as the tape does not pass over the top of any coin - especially if you use 2x2's. Wouldn't want ripping the tape off to potentially contact the coin.

Dont clean them if you do youll destroy their value. Theyll certify them as is. PCGS lets you send OGP if you want, I think NGC prefers to have them in flips. Just have them packaged well and youll be fine. I would recommend a flat rate box too

Where are you sending them?

NGC and PCGS have sites with instructions. I sent something to NGC and they required something like Saflips (stiff Mylar-type holders).

If you don't find the instructions you need on the web, call them. It's got to be cheaper then mailing them, having them returned, and having to mail them again.

Good luck.

Thank you to all that have posted. OK don't laugh now but I was thinking of sending them to ICG for grading and slabbing. They have a special going on now, and I have picked up a few ICG slabbed ASE Proofs and I have a few ASE Proofs in the boxes with and w/o COA and outside boxes. So why not get all my ASE Proofs slabed by ICG, and they all will fit together. I really don't care about them all being PR-70 or PR-69, I would just like them all to be the same. I had a couple of ASE's w/o the outer box and COA, but have found it very hard to locate the COA and outer box alone.
I will check the web site and see what they say,(I did look on their web-site and really did not see instructions on how to package the coins, just how to send them),very good advice to just call....... Thank you, Paul.
Rest in Peace

Not going to laugh ... BUT ....

why not just buy blank slabs and make your own labels?

It's got to be cheaper and then they will all match.

Hopefully you've already checked to find if worth the cost of having them slabbed and graded.

"* NO STAPLES * Place Raw Coins In 2 ½ x 2 ½ Mylar Flips - Mark FlipsWith Matching Submission Form Line Numbers"
http://anacs.com/PDFFiles/submissionform.pdf

"We ask that you send your coins in 2 ½ x 2 ½ Mylar flips. You can purchase them and other packaging supplies at our online store. Please DO NOT send your coins in stapled holders, 2x2 flips, vinyl flips (that may contain PVC) or tubes, as doing so can cause a delay in processing. Please do not use an excess of tape or packing material."

Probably a safe bet for NGC and other TPG'ers.

Hello Buddy, I had thought about blank slabs,(they seem to be about 50c each in bulk), but I like the fact that someone else has graded them as I have no skill in that area. ICG is running a special right now and for the 6 to 8 coins I might send, it would only be about $13-$14 each.

very true Just Karl, My main focus right now are Proof ASE's. These seem to hold more value slabbed and graded. So we are really only talking about less than 3 dozen coins, ICG's on ASE Proofs don't show up very often so this puts me in no rush to find coins I can use.

Thanks for the information oih82w8, I think that is what I will do, get to my local coin shop and pick up some 2.5 X 2.5's.
Thanks to all who read and responded.
Rest in Peace

It's just my opinion but a grade from ICG probably isn't worth much. They have such a poor reputation that ICG slabbed coins are not allowed on the bay.

Someone once advised me to take the time to learn to grade coins -- so I am trying to learn. If I could take decent photos I think I could learn faster because there is a lot of help here if you have a good photo.

I think this is a great question, if the TPG allows you to send it in either way. By switching the coin from the mint's plastic air-tite to a flip, that takes one variable away from the TPG having to open a tight AT. On the other hand, mailing in a flip introduces a new variable: rubbing en route. Or I'm over-thinking probabilities...
