The first thread I started was Franklin vs Ikes... Which to collect? The overwhelming response was to collect both. I started doing this, but I ran into a wonderful problem. Franklins have so many listed and unlisted varieties. So my question to the Franklin experts is... Which varieties (dd, type II, etc) are the most readily available to find? Which is going to last the test of time? Which unlisted, such as the type II 58 and 59, variety is going to be the next big thing? I think I am becoming a Franklin junkie....

I am not really a Franklin expert as I also am learning. Last spring I "finished" my Franklin collection by getting the 1955 Bugs Bunny.

But then I found this gem:

Franklin-Half-Varieties...-Franklin-Experts-Help-Me

Franklin-Half-Varieties...-Franklin-Experts-Help-Me

These were made by Daniel Carr - to make these he used a coin press he bought from the Denver mint. He stamped them onto actual Franklins.

Here is a good website I hope to delve into deeper myself:

I collect Franklins and Ikes as well. Do as I did ...I started off getting all the proofs and silvers(only with the ikes). Then you go for the varieties only if you want them. All that is but icing on the cake. Especially getting the earlier Franklins in MS-64 or better will be hard enough. Of course all of this will be what are you willing to spend. The Eisenhower's will be much cheaper but you have your type 1 and 2. Errors are another story and another collecting direction to pursue.

Of course. They can't be counterfeits, as they depict something never minted.

I admit it would have been nice had I bought more as extras. He also said he was going to make a 1964 P, but he decided not to. It would have been nice to have both. I also got a 1970 (silver) Ike and a 1975 clad Ike (Eagle on moon REV - he made bicentennial REVs too).
