last time I received a package that required a signature from CP. They didn't asked for ID. I was outside getting in my car and the mailman said'' I have a package from M. ..... I said ok. He looked at me and said ''sorry the pen on my electronic signature pad doesn't work so i'll just marked it as signed for'' gave me the package and left.
Hope they figure out what happened and that someone's held responsable.

You really don't need a lawyer for anything under $25000. I would take the matter to small claims court which would only cost $75 to start the proceedings. Here the Ontario site gives you an idea of the process. http://www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov....b4aClaim.aspA package with a gold coin I ordered from the mint was "lost" several years ago. They ignored all my attempts to contact them (i.e. RCM), except my registered letter where I stated I was going to file a claim against them within 3 weeks if they did provide proof of the delivery. They sent me a new coin within two weeks. Unless Canada Post can produce the receipt with your signature, they are liable and I am sure a small claims judge would see that way as well.

I find it scary shipping to the U.S.A. or purchasing expensive items from the U.S.A. in all the mail transactions I've had in the past 15 years (3,000+) with 99% being inside of Canada, I've lost 2 packages, and both were coming from the U.S. There must be mailmen somewhere with nice Collections! Over the years I've had shipments from Canada go missing. Thank heaven for ebay buyer protection! Canada Post is the main reason I won't send coins to Canada - either for sale or for grading. Don't know what the problem is but I have my suspicions.

All this talk makes me want to join the ranks of the Canada post employees. I might be able to build my collection faster, and with more valuable items and get away with it I wonder how many people out there are losing packages with other valuable items in them.

Re DvntMstrs dilemna... Always sorry to hear about the hassles a loss like this incurs... hope you are able to get a positive resolution. But for those that are expressing fear about shipping coins I can only offer my experience over the past 5 years... I have mailed out and received over a total of 3000+ shipments of coins, by regular mail and registered mail, within Canada, to and from the USA, and all over the world... I can count the number of shipments that never made it on one hand... Only buy on ebay from sellers that have a positive track record and history of excellent feedback from satisfied customers... pay for purchases with PayPal and you will be covered automatically by full refund insurance... Send coins by "registered" mail with tracking and "signature required" on delivery and you meet the ebay / PayPal requirements for complete refund insurance if it goes missing in transit... package discreetly and never indicate that there is something of high value in envelope... Unfortunately, there are always going to be occasional instances of mail going missing... and it will not always be as a result of thievery within the Postal system... Do your due diligence to protect yourself as best you can... and don't let the occasional negative story scare you off shipping or receiving coins by mail... there's a world of rare vintage coins at your fingertips online, and as you can see by the volume of secure shipments made by myself and glenzy with only a few rare losses, the postal system is very reliable. Enoy this great coin collecting addiction (I mean hobby) without undue worry! Take care, and Have a Great Day! Cam

This is part of the reason why I buy everything in person. Face to face business is better, in my opinion.

I feel for you , I had 56,000 worth of coins stolen from the USPS system.. Had all the proof it arrived at JFK on its way to a grading firm.. The package arrived 4 months later empty but postmarked ? The USPS denied all liability and claimed it never went through the system... Canada post said once it left Canada not their problem..blah blah blah was the story... I called the FBI as it was theft , they sid Oh your Canadian nothing we can do have your RCMP look into it .. well we all know what happened there..nothing as it as not their jurisdiction...So Yes someone on both sides are making themselves nice collection... And since that day 2 years ago FEDEX overnight all the time

For what it's worth, I doubt it's the actual mailman, i.e., the person who delivers your mail, is the thief. Because they have to deal with the public on a daily basis they tend to be a lot more accountable. Anything that gets stolen is most likely an 'inside job' at one of the big sorting plants like Gateway in Mississauga where a lot of mail gets 'lost' - and the militant employees there are rarely held accountable for anything. Anything traveling cross-border has to go through several of these plants on both sides.

artdio...You've just made me hug my coins an awful lot closer. What a sad story... Now I'm afraid to mail.. anything to PCGS.... The mail or delivery folks must recognize key addresses and then the "bad guys" could act accordingly..... BTW...Is that "56,000" in dollars?

DEVLEC - do not mail anything to PCGS. Use Fed-Ex...

Everyone must go to the Canadian Post Office site and look at the articles that are not covered by insurance whether bought or not. We would never use the mail again.
