Sharing this for the naysayers about criminals at CP. When sending or buying a single coin, we've all had 1 or 2 get lost, it unfortunately happens. This loss is undisputably criminal.
l ordered 2500 dollars worth of silver maple leafs from a US dealer. He filled out the customs declaration, shipped it registered mail with a tracking number and insurance.
The package never arrived. The tracking number says its been delivered, Canada Post claims they have a signed recipt - they however cant find it right now. They also state that since there is a signature on their form they have no insurance responsibility.
According to Canada Post there is nothing that can be done. Their records indicate it was signed for and they see no reason to investigate any further. And to top it off they refuse to show anyone the signed recipt . . .
Can anyone say wealthy mailman ? Looks like l am out 2500$ lts time the postal workers are held accountable for theft. This is obvious theft as "someone" forged my signature and no one outside the post office has touched the package.
For those of you who want to know, CP has no obligation to inform you of the last person they can verify having handled your package, as long as they have paperwork they truly dont care what you receive and what you dont.

Therein lies the problem - there is no signature to see, their records state it was signed for but they cant produce a signature. l had my lawyer contact them which is how l know they dont have one to provide for examination, all they have is a computer notation saying it was signed for.

That is a little fishy to me...Im pretty sure they have to prove it was signed for and not just their computer saying it was. I'm no lawyer but I would be fighting them on it. I feel bad for you...that is a huge loss. I wish you the best of luck on holding them accountable

We do intend to fight, my lawyer will definitely hold someone accountable. l just want everyone to know what happened so they make sure they track their stuff as well as possible and are aware of what can happen. lts time they faced the same charges anyone else would not a corporate and union coverup. ln my opinion they deserve harsher treatment for the breach of trust placed in them. Someone will replace my money, the sad part is that this man will get away with what he did and most likely do it again to someone else.

No, there is a CLAIM of a signature on a receipt. They would be right if there was an actual receipt. But, the burden of proof is with them to show that receipt exists. I would suggest you call in the police. This is theft by somebody. And the missing receipt is exactly the sort of thing you'd expect from an inside job. CP is another partnership of management and union determined to do everything they can to put the company out of business.

Just a few weeks back I had a $5k+ coin clearly marked as Signature Required left in my front mailbox (not even the locked super mailbox across the street with the regular packages but just out in the open). Fortunately I got to it before anyone else did. Must have had $1k+ of gift cards that have just never shown up; might be CP, might be the sellers, I can't tell. Fortunately all covered by eBay/Paypal refunds. As a seller I like to complain about ebay's high fees as much as the next guy but in all honesty, they have covered my losses as a buyer without quibbling or needing to get lawyers involved. So all that just to say I feel your pain and wish you the best of luck! p.s. If you paid by credit card can you get them involved on your side?

So what ever happened to the insurance? Oh yah there is no insurance claim. It also happened to me and thank god it was only one coin. After 90 days I was allowed to make a claim and finally got less than half the amount claimed. That amount, my lawyer and I would sue the ******.I feel for you buddy.

This is a statement that Sandy Campbell (Proof Positive Coins), posted on another coin forum last year, warning us about this exact situation. I have pasted his post here: Quote: A strong word of caution to anyone using registered mail to and from the USA. If you send a registered letter to the USA it will track inside Canada until it reaches the US system and then it is thrown in the regular first class mail system in the US. If it is noticed when arriving at the destination they will request a signature but in many cases this won't happen. The US decided to opt out of a 161 country agreement on registered mail in January 2011. The US stated that they felt the rest of the world did not provide the same service so they decided to make their own rules. This allows employees in both postal services Canada/USA to steal registered mail with ease....and guess what....it is happening a lot. How do I know this you ask. In March we shipped $53,000 worth of gold in 7 packages over 12 days to 2 different addresses and only one larger envelope showed up at the other end. Canada Post security just completed a comprehensive investigation and said the packages all made it into the US system and were now no longer trackable. I am also aware of another high value shipment that was shipped at the same time and it was stolen, we have the same insurance company. By the way all these packages went through Ile St Laurent, Quebec, even the other package....interesting fact don't you think! So the $13 Canada Post collects for registered mail is really just a sucker fee. I now I ship everything Fedex. If I have to ship an item of value, worth more than $200, to the US, or have items shipped from the US to me, I use FEDEX.

I had a coin delivered to me from the mint, that was the wrong one ordered. The item number I ordered was off by just a few, and the difference was a $2500 coin was delivered instead of a $250 coin (gold instead of silver!!) Anyway, long story short, I called, got a return authorization number from the mint, and swallowed the "insured signature required" shipping charge of about $30 to get the $2500 coin back to the mint. It never got there. I followed it's trail from my local post office where I had insisted watching the girl 'receive' the package (scanned in). She originally just tossed it on the pile of 'out-going' mail. Thank god I did. That was the last scan on the package. From there, it disappeared. The police were called, and the pick up driver interrogated..and that was the end of my involvement. A cheque was received by me for the missing insured value - including the shipping charges. That driver - in my opinion - looked at the package with $2500 insurance, and conveniently slipped it into his pocket. I've never had anything go missing that was simply mailed first class - with only a stamp.

Quote: no one outside the post office has touched the package and you know this how? seller fraud, customs officials fraud, post office fraud, neighbors? all possible. maybe the seller wrote down the wrong address and the carrier did deliver the package (just to the wrong address)? not saying that there aren't crooked posties out there but until you have the documentation you might want to be careful in your accusations. Postal carrier losses are tracked very closely. if a carrier has a high number of "missing" packages they are out of a job. question though, why would you order canadian maples from a US dealer? why not buy them in person, cash in hand, maples in hand? sending $2,500 in untraceable cash goods is asking to get robbed. i feel sorry for your loss, but anyone who ships high value items shouldnt really be surprised when they suffer losses. believe it or not there are dishonest people in the world. (another reason for the PO to resist paying claims, for every dishonest mail carrier I would bet they have 100 fraudulant insurance claims). hope you get it sorted out

Mark me down as just a tad more than having a touch of trouble believing this one. Go to Canada post and get proof of the signature. Involve the police and Canada post security. YOu will get results. Also the US sender purchased insurance to you and that will be collectable. Good luck. Next time support a local dealer and take delivery in person!

Why didnt l buy local instead of ordering from an American dealer ? Thats simple, first there is no dealer local to me, and he had the whole sets l was seeking. Secondly, since l work an average of 16 hours a day 6 days a week travelling to another city to buy in person isn't an easy task either.
How do l know he didnt write the wrong address ? Easy, he has the paperwork (his copy of the label) and faxed a copy to the lawyer. The address is correct. Besides l have ordered product from him before without isssue, l doubt he intentionally ripped me off.
How do l know it was in their hands ? Well if it hadnt cleared customs and been on the possession of CP to deliver - they wouldnt have record of a signature would they ? A neighbour ? Well lve never gotten a package requiring a signature which didnt also require ID . . hard foranyone to provide that besides me.
Get proof of the signature ? As l stated thats where the problem is, they cant find a copy of the signature, only a note in the computer that it was signed for.
l have no doubt the lawyer will get results but who knows how long it will take. From now on l will be using fedex for anything of value.
