Picked up one week apart on ebay.

Would some of the new Vammers like to attribute them?

I have to run to work right now but if it helps right now Seated they both are "Round" and they look like they could be Silver.

don't think you would be considered a "new VAMmer" by anyone's standard

Now it's been suggested in the past that I have no standards, but yes, Russ does not qualify as a "New VAMmer."

BTW both coins are the same VAM. Do it "By the numbers" and you should be able to attribute them in no time.

Hello Seated Nut!
I have been stuck on photography for a bit and popped over here in time to see your post. So thanks to your attribution guide, I believe it is one of the 160-189 VAMs. The next part is more challenging.... I notice the e in we is filled. On the obverse, some of the stars may bedoubled: the first 4 on right and maybe the top of the 7. I'm not good with doubling! The B is funky on the 2nd Morgan but not on the first.
Now to VAM World to see if I can find any matches.

Kellyk,

You're getting the hang of it. It is indeed in the 160-189 group (short nock, parallel arrow feather, and broken 'r' in Trust). Many in this group have anomolies with the 'P' in PLURIBUS and that's where I look second ... there are two in the group that have unique features and I look first for these features. Can you guess what they are?

Good Morning! I'm on west coast time... So according to VW, p can be shifted or spiked. when I look at the left 'foot' of the p, it looks large but I cannot see doubling. When I compare it to a p on a Morgan in hand, it does look larger. So is that the doubling? How do I enlarge just a portion of the picture? I'm on a PC.

The 'P' enlarged.

What did you discover from the "First" step I mentioned?

They both looks like 189 to me.
Congrats in advance if they both are.

When I see the 7TF, short-nock, parallel feather and a broken 'r' in trust, I first look for two things ... the 'L' in LIBERTY for the VAM 188, and the re-engraved tail feather of the VAM 189. If I don't see either of these I look at the 'P' in Pluribus. Here's a close-up of the re-engraved area between the right leg and wing (viewer's left).

Good job Au90o! Great. For you Seated Nut! When you mentioned the first step in the 3rd post above, what are you referring to?
I went through most of the VAMs looking at pictures, etc but did not get to the last one.
So for 1878-p, first determine which reverse. Then if shrt nock, parallel arrows and 7. Tail feathers, then look at L in liberty, the reengraved tail feather and then the P. I'll add these to my vamming notes.
Thanks for the lesson!
