A Complete 1878 S Long Nock set. There are 9 die pairings of this type set. The dies where that of the 7/8 type P mint dies that where used when the San Francisco mint first opened. The 1878 S Long nocks are rare to start with and with less then 13 known MS coins in "ALL 9 DIE PAIRS" and AU being about as rare. Well it is a milestone, I think this makes the 4th full set.
The Vam-72 currently has 9 coins found with 7 being grade-able and a bunch of people looking for them for years.
The Vam-60 is next with less then 12 graded-able or grades to date. Most see the Vam-72 and the Vam-60 as Stoppers to the set.

Always awesome to hear/see someone complete a set... I don't know a lot about VAM's but yours seems like a true gem.

I have been looking off and on for years trying to cherrypick a 78-S Long Nock in MS condition and to tell you the truth the pictures I saw of the one you bought was about the first picture I had ever seen of a MS example
Congrats on completing the set

I sat down with Pete B who has the finest set with 4 MS coins and a AU-55 Vam-72 and an AU-58 Vam-60 in it. Its going to take a week for him to wipe up my drool off the slabs. That was back before the ANA in Philly. LN in MS are WAY RARE!

Doesn't "Long Neck" refer to the eagle? Sometimes spelling IS important.

In this case the Long Nock refers to the Arrow shaft aft or behind the arrow feathers.

Russ, Somehow I missed this thread. CONGRATS! I've got numerous examples of 26, 27, 56, 57, 58 and 59, but can't locate the 60, 62, and 72. Of course I get all mine off ebay as cherry-picks. I only get to shows and the bourse about every other year. I went to Alaska this year for 10 days of salmon fishing instead of the ANA in Philly.
