A friend bought this with the express consent of trading it to me for bulk bullion. I have an affinity for Carson City Silver dollars and is one of the last ones need for my set. He believes he should get a value of $800 out of the CC. So far he has offered me the coin for 22 mint fresh ASE's. WWUD? I want the coin but prefer PCGS to NGC though I may resubmit it to them in hopes of a 66 or better. Anyway just let me know what you think of the coin and what a fair offer would be.

$800 is top auction that I can find as of ;late so its in that range...but if you have the capital to buy one, sell the ASEs and sit on the cash and keep auction bhunting until you find what you want if its the PCGS you prefer what if PCGS, on resubmit, gives you a 63? you know, you have to pay for that to send it to and from with them so its more investment than what you can get for just buying at an auction right now in what you want IMO nice coin he has though

In my opinion the price is a little high. The coin looks like a solid 65, so I don't think it will get an upgrade (or downgrade). Personally, I would pass on the coin for now and keep the ASE's. With silver prices the way they are right now, I think we will be seeing $40/oz by the end of the year.

$800 is high but I think he gave $760 for it so he is trying to profit a bit. The only reason I would consider it is because I only have like $30 a piece in my eagles. I'm gonna try to get him down to a roll for it or better yet some junk coin. I was buying quite a bit I didn't want at the time because it was cheap at 16-18x face now I would like to trade it first.

Yeah, trying to get rid of the Junk silver would be a better decision imo. Or, maybe half junk, half ASE.

$800 is a fair price for an "honest" 65. That coin looks like a nice 65 and well worth it.
This date/grade and has gone over $900 many times and appears to be averaging a bit over $800 at auction this year.

22 ASE seems a bit steep to me.

I believe it is a good 65 but I don't think it would ever have a shot at going any higher. Any time you get at the 65 level the smallest marks on the coin can keep it from making the next grade

That's a reasonable trade, especially for a coin whose value is not tied so directly to the price of silver. Don't bother submitting, though - you're not going to upgrade with that visible mark below the eye, and NGC has relative parity with PCGS as regards price for this issue.

It is a really nice coin. I have found that 1881CC's generally bring less than stated values. I bought a ms65 awhile back for a great deal less that mS65 grey sheet bid on ebay. You can find them for less. If you keep an eye on ebay auctions and/or the buy it now's that run 10% off sales, you will be able to find one. I would offer 18 eagles and go from there. You might play the crack out game with this one if you can stomach it. Good Luck!
