Seems to have great luster. Gold is a soft metal so very high grades will still show a ton of contact marks.

I will go with MS-63

Dunno if I would bother slabbing it, but at the very least, this coin deserves to be housed in a screw capsule.

mkman123: I take your point. Almost all dates in American gold have been faked.

Nevertheless, from the pictures presented, I certainly have no problem with this coin. All of the detail is quite sharp. That is, the intersections where the relief meets the fields, are all very sharply defined.

This is one of the easiest ways to detect if a coin is a first or second generation copy, because the relief in a copy is at least slightly blurred.

I don't see anything particularly suspicious with this coin. The grade appears to be around a MS-62 which I think would put a value of around $2000-2100 for it. Nice coin!

Luster appears to be intact in the fields so I'd agree with a mint state judgment. Given the contact marks an MS-62 would probably be fair. I don't see anything suspicious about it but I'd still check the weight. Standard weight is 33.436 grams and a mint state coin should be within a couple tenths of a gram of the standard.

Nice coin, worth $2000 or a bit more to the right buyer.

Nice gold piece!

Grade: MS62-MS63

Price $2000 conservative, but a shot at $2200.

I'd agree with MS-62.
