In my opinion, the Flying Eagle cent is the most beautiful design, of all U.S. Coinage to date, and my favorite. I recently bought this coin, as my new pocket piece. This coin was heavily cleaned, and has scratches, so therefore, a perfect candidate. My previous pocket piece was a Merc. I have to go with copper swcoin.ecrater.com

At one time, was that a 1858 FEC? EDIT - I guessed correctly before you changed the title

I guess you can say, I felt sorry for this coin. I deemed it better in my pocket, as a true appreciator of the FEC series.

makes your wonder where it had been for the last 155 years to get that kind of damage

EVERY COIN, no matter if pristine or poor, deserves a place in our hearts. To carry it with you in your pocket - AMEN I say! You are so kind to take it into your care.

This one immediately struck me, don't ask me why.

One of the first coins I ever bought was an 1858 FEC. It was about in XF condition, but was pretty cruddy looking. So what did I do? I polished the crap out of it to return it to it's glory days... I didn't know any better at the time. Seeing this one has made me decide to use that one as my pocket piece. Thanks!

Very nice! I look forward to seeing this one again in the (not too distant) future, after she has has a change to recover from the damage.

It is my favorite penny design. Wish it had run longer than three years. And it makes me want to cry seeing those obviously purposeful gouges. I would likely take the poor thing in as well.
