Someone seems to have counter-stamped that or carved the state of Oregon into it for whatever reason

It's nice to see my home state on a cent for a change.

It is a counterstamped coin, probably not worth much over face value except to a collector. I remember seeing something like that years ago but with all 50 states done that way.

I always like finding a counter stamp . Probably have 25-30 of the States, plus various other stampings. Yours is an exceptionally nice older copper one. Nice find!

That's a counterstamped Lincoln, which in 1960 had the Lincoln Memorial reverse, not the wheat back.

I collect these from CRH just for the fun of it. I have found a few counter-stamped states like yours, and one with the image of JFK. I just dump them in my coin tube labelled "odd". Once I get enough of them, I am going to try and make some sort of folder/display.

Some time back there was an add for such cents with all the states stamped on them. This set was in a display case for hanging on a wall. I would think that after a while most were just taken down and the coins put back in circulation.

It's nice and red for its age. Maybe put it in a coin capsule to keep it pretty.

As for counterstamped LMC, I have found an "Easter bunny" and a "Masonic stamp". Not sure what to do with them though.

I was hoping to see a (copy/replica/counterfeit) 1964 Wheat cent like the OP title mentioned!
