I was out with a friend walking through a field and this coin lying in a freshly plowed field caught my eye.

This was in an area where French and Germans had been traveling back in the 1700.

Not sure what kind of coin it is and it is more than a little difficult to make out what it is.

Any ideas?

Also ideas on how to clean without damaging?

On the presumption that it's a copper coin around 19mm in diameter, I think it would be a low denomination; probably a duit, 1/4 stuber, 1 pfennig or similar.

What does the word above the date say ?

Saxe-Eisenach is definitely a possibility but I'm wondering about Schmalkalden, too.

What is its diameter, please ?
