Does the Mint just randomly put these in rolls? it seems like out of every 10 rolls I open you will always get between 4-6 of them. it is so consistent. it just seems strange...

They are put out there just like any other quarters. They go to rolling companies in bulk, they are rolled and sent to banks when they order quarters. Unless something drastically changed that I dont know about.

I love your name crazyforATB! I am too by the way. They're what got me back into coin collecting. Having a few in every roll hasn't been my experience at all. I have trouble finding them in rolls. I get a few rolls to go through just for fun and I put them aside to trade with, but I only ever find 1 or 2 per roll on average. Recently at the store I work at, I got a whole roll of Chickasaw quarters, clearly uncirculated. So I guess from there, people get them in change, give them to another store, and they are then deposited and mixed in with the general coin supply.
The other funny thing is how I've only seen some locations once or twice, but others I see other all the time. Probability at it's best I suppose.

It is fun searching the coins looking for the ones you want.

I'm in New Mexico and I think I've only seen 1 or 2 out in circulation. Too bad, I'd love to put a few aside at face.

For whatever reason some places youll find a lot other places you wont find any. If we all went and got a box of quarters Id bet wed see quite a wide variety of what the most common coins we each found were

Far fewer ATB Quarters produced than other quarters though. Plenty of threads here on the production #'s of ATBs. Still, you'd expect to see a few here and there. Then I look at my spending habits and realize that I do most (95%+) of my transactions with my bank card. I'm not going to see anything that way. Therefore I buy mint sets and bother my friends. :)

The fact that banks can't order BU rolls of ATB Quarters at face value (as they could for 1999-2009 Quarters) keeps things more interesting. I have some of each design from my change. I got my first received-in-change Hawai'i Volcanoes-D last week. Two weeks before that, I got an Acadia-D that someone had polished. I can't believe someone would polish a brand-new Quarter (I spent it later that evening). Ironically, the Chickasaw-D is the design I've received the least amount of from my change. And this was the highest mintage D design, until the new Hawai'i Volcanoes-D. All those extra Chicksaw-D's minted went outside of Denver, apparently.

i havent seen the mintage figures on volcanoes.. what are they? yeah I see average number of chickasaws... most being chaco's (ironically the lowest mintage) and rarely see gettysburgs and hoods. its fun to hear how different it is around the states. I feel bad for people that rarely find any..

From coinnews.net Quote:Hawaii Volcanoes Quarter Mintages As mentioned, mintages for the Hawaii Volcanoes quarter were revealed. Splits were 78,600,000 million for Denver and 46,200,000 million for Philadelphia for a total of 124,800,000. In an interesting point, the lopsided difference between the two facilities is atypical. Hawaii Volcanoes quarter mintages are more than double that of any previous 2012-dated quarter. In fact, the amount is higher than any in the series of 2010-2012 America the Beautiful Quarters except for the 2011 Chickasaw National Recreation Area quarter at 143,200,000. http://www.coinnews.net/2012/09/07/...er-mintages/

It is odd how the Hawaii mintage was almost more than the 3 previous ATB Quarters combined this year. I do like the Hawaii a lot and maybe they figured itd be real popular, but still seems a little overkill unless there was some big old quarter melt down before the mintage

Three years into this and I'm up to maybe my fifth ATB found in change. Me and my daughter have very sad looking Whitman folders for this series.
