Your opinion on counterstamping may vary but I find this a well-executed commemoration of "Sadie" and the date of May 17th, 1939 on which George VI and Elizabeth began their cross-Canada royal tour. The decently-centered stamp, with an appealing font, is at a near right angle to the clock tower. Rediscovered while sorting through one of my Whitman boxes, this coin was purchased roughly ten years ago for ten dollars. Thanks for looking.

The purists would consider this coin as mutilated or defaced and would value it probably only for melt value.

The only notable exception I know of is silver dollars counterstamped with the initials JOP. Joseph Oliva Patenaude was a jeweler from Nelson, B.C. who counterstamped Silver Dollars from 1935 to the early 1950's.

This coin caught my eye immediately!
I Like it!
Thanks for the Pictures ThomasJefferson!
Oh, by the way...I would pay more than melt value for it!

To me it is a waste of a good coin.

That's so cool about the J.O.P. counterstamp. I live in Nelson, BC. :) Never seen or heard of those until now though! Thanks for sharing!

Ps, my first post on this website
Rest in Peace

This may be viewed as damage - but sometimes even damage can be interesting and collectable. I like this coin - thanks for showing it.

Despite the value some place on the JOP dollars, I consider the mutilated coins and would not pay a premium for them.
Why the JOP dollars attract the attention they do is a mystery to me.
