I recently found in an inheritance, some coins. There is a motion picture commemorative society Judy garland "gold" coin. I can't find any info. on what it is or if it has any value. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You do not have a US Mint coin ... some photos will help to support your request.

Sorry for the delay, this is the front and back. I also found a Marilyn Monroe with the same Motion Picture Commemorative Society marking. Thanks again.

I have serched the internet for about half an hour and uncovered nothing. I doubt its gold but you could get a jeweller to test it.

I dont know about in the US but I suspect it is similar to Australia in that sometimes magazine clubs put out a series of collectable issues with a little gift each time. You have to buy all 12 issues over the year to get the full set. Commonly it is for a model plane, car, train etc or stitchwork or cooking etc etc. I have also seen it for a con/token collection before. Thats my bet guess

Googling the exact phrases "motion picture commemorative society" and "Judy Garland" came up with exactly three hits: this thread right here on CCF (I still can't believe how fast Google processes CCF forum posts!) and two old archived newspapers. This Google-archived one is more legible, comes from the Pittsburgh Press of Mon 23rd January 1978 and tells of how Mickey Rooney has started the company, the Judy Garland medal was the first medal the company made, and that Marilyn was planned for medal #3. Given the difficulty in finding information or other pictures of these medals on the Internet, I'd guess they didn't make too many other medals, and that they're not particularly common.

Thanks for the help. I guess there just aren't many of these out there.
