What's your opinion 1854-O $3 Indian Princess Gold Coin. What grade would you give it?
The thing that is strange for a RARE coin like this one is, there aren't that many bidders

Thanks you for your replies,

Crimp marks at 5:30 reverse might indicate ex-jewelry. It does look "roughed up" with poor images too.

If genuine, it's likely worth $1,000 with the problems.

It is a "private listing." This is a red flag to me. There is a number of opinions on this, ( private listing ) at CCF. ebay connoisseurs can tell you more.
Nice gold coin to have

Just the fact it states "Warehouse Distributor" makes me avoid like the plague.

Looks ok, but I'm no expert. The seller states "100% aunthentic" and then immediately after, "we are not coin experts." Not only is the mis-spelling a pet peeve of mine, but how are they 100% sure authentic but admit they are not experts and it's not graded by a TPG. I would pass.

Details are very weak but this date usually is poorly struck so that itself is not a serious defect. Color looks OK but the scratches and rim issue degrade its value even assuming it is genuine. Comparable damaged pieces with VF detail have sold on Heritage in the range of $650-850 or so. A no-problem example graded PCGS VF-30 sold for $1775 so you can see how badly damage hurts the value.

Might still be a good buy if you can snag it for $600 or less. I would require the seller to guarantee authenticity in writing with a promise of refund if a TPG (I'm thinking ANACS) determines it is not genuine.

I wouldn't touch any $3.00 gold piece on ebay unless it was in a PCGS, ANACS or NGC holder. even then I'd pass on one on ebay, I'd want to hold in hand before purchaseing, many coins in higher grades have been previously puttied to hide tiny nicks and marks. Many have even made it into 3rd party holders (usually older ones). Too much value to trust just anyone selling one. Get one from a very reputable dealer, my opinion. At ANA counterfiet detection courses I've been fooled by some amazing pieces, that even fooled many experts.
