I absolutly pull coppers and throw them in a bucket.. Just my oppinion but, I mean why not...? Like Penny4me said 2.5 cents for 1... Sounds like a better deal than coinstar to me... And they don't sell penny candy anymore, so it's not like I'll spend them, Lol... Mmmm... Candy... .. Almost as good as coins.... Who else keeps a hoard of gold chocolate coins.... Lol, the best of both worlds...

Hoard it before it's gone! The melt ban will eventually be lifted and copper will really start to vanish when the recycling places buy it at 1.5x face or so.

Yes. Not intending to make a mint (ahem) but as everyone else has said... why not? Doesn't take up much room, even if you eventually end up with a 5-gallon bucket of them.

Say they don't lift the ban you are then just sitting on face value in pennies. That face value is getting eaten up by inflation every year so the purchacing power of that face is being destroyed. Best bet is to try to sell them now on ebay or CL for a profit and let them wait 20 years for the ban to be lifted.

I don't think the ban will ever be lifted, since the Mint wants to make all of the profit from them. When cents are discontinued, the banks will be instructed to pull all of them from circulation and send them back to the FR to have them recycled. Canada should be starting that soon. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Quote: Who isn't? I'm not, sorry. I will pull out wheat cents, just because they are cool, but I have neither the time, the eyesight nor the desire to examine the dates of every cent I run across. And even if I did have the time and the eyesight, I just don't think the potential return for the investment is worth it (especially since there's no guarantee they will ever be redeemable for copper value).

I think all of us have our little bucket into which goes wheaties and an occasional piece of silver along with some Euro coins. Wife says I'm going to get some kind of disease from whats in that bucket and wants to fill it with some kind of cleaning stuff. Every once in a while it gets looked through. I have over 350 rolls of wheaties I have to get rid of sooner or later. Why do I need to save an occasional single one or two I don't know. Guess we are all children at heart. Just my thoughts edgman
