I must have missed this thread when it started, doh! Neat idea, but I see you missed the AU53 grade in your set, might want to add that one too. I like the idea of a grading set, done before, and always a real looker when displayed. It would also make a great display for a coin show exhibit like at an ANA show, possible even award winner too! Make a nice presentation using your set and some books on grading like Photograde, Brown, ANA Grading, Dr. Rick Bragg, PCGS literature, etc. make it all flow together maybe throw in some various TPG slabs as well. A good coin show exhibit can pay and introduce you to many great numismatists.

Not sure how I missed that. I added it to my original post.

I have been thinking about doing an exhibit, when it's completed.

Here are new pictures of the FR-02 and the AG-03.

Edit: Replaced old images in previous posts with these "new" pictures (Replaced dead image hosting links).

Wait. You picked up a VAM-27 (attribution is a slam dunk) for $33? It's about the most common 1878-S Long Nock, but still....

I was thinking about doing a grade set like this. Do all the coins in it have to be the same date/mm?

Yep! I assume it was because of the slab it's in. But I'll take it!

Not usually. I am just doing the same date/mm to add to the challenge. It will also be a really neat set once it's completed.

It has an advantage, in that there will be fewer considerations of strike quality or die differences due to hub/master die aging. C-B made a wise choice in this regard, with a commonly-available date known for decent strikes.
Rest in Peace

Great additions CB! Hope you're able to find that PO01. That one could be difficult.

Thanks Dave.

The PO-01 is going to be really tough, but that just adds to the excitement of building the set.

This is awesome. I am just now finding it, but very inspiring. I am on a very tight budget, and already collect to many things, but I am tempted to do maybe 1892 Indian Head cent set. I like the idea of 100 years before my birth year.

Picked up the first mint state coin for the set.

It's a MS-62, and is very strong for the grade.

Yeah, that is very strong for the grade. My guess is that denticle necklace brought it down to 62.

Yeah, probably would have made 63 without it.

I agree, I think its a great and unique idea. I think if you picked a year like 78 or 21 you would be able to do it without too much trouble.
