These are called Solid or 1-digit Radar notes. Very nice find! They appear to be uncirculated, do not fold them, or do anything to compromise their condition. I don't know much about the values, but I suspect they are probably worth around $1000 each.

Someone else could give you a better reply. They might be worth sending in to get authenticated and graded, would cost peanuts relative to their value, and the holders they would be put in would be as safe as it gets.

Beautiful Notes. For now, the best way to store them would be in mylar holders, which can be purchased from any dealer. http://colonialacres.com/products.p...3840&ref=484I would also suggest, like jg mentioned to get these notes graded by a third party. For Canadian notes, the best company is BCS. http://www.banknotecertification.com/Not only will the certification of the notes, determine a grade, but it will also better protect them. In uncirculated condition, book value is $1,200 for the $1 and $1,300 for the $5. If you have any other questions, please post them. Great find, and welcome to the forum.

I would first of all verify if these notes are real since they don't have watermarks.

Have them graded. The grading company will put them in a holder and it will also guarantee that they are genuine when it comes time to sell them.
From the picture they look like UNC or better which is very good and will command top dollar.

The bottom right on the $1 has a little green dot. The $5 has one bottom centre. Under magnification, they should be slightly raised. These "dots" were added to the paper mixture as a security feature.

I don't think you need to worry about authenticity of these notes. Everything looks fine to me. Quote: I would first of all verify if these notes are real since they don't have watermarks. There were no watermarks on Canadian notes, in 1954.

thank you gents for all the information!
there is a story. my grandfather, god bless him, just left us and passed these bills along to my father maybe 30 years ago. my father remembered he had them stored somewhere and recently went looking for them. my grandfather was assistant commissioner of the RCMP when he retired and my father remembers a story involving a contact at the bank/mint? not quite sure of exact details unfortunately.

Great looking notes. Too bad you didn't have the $2.00 with all 7 fives for a serial number.
