I was just wondering if this book was worth the buy, I'm trying to learn about error/variety coins and figured I would ask before I spent the money on Amazon for it. Thanks! (If you have a cheap one for sale PM me) Also, what is the difference in the volumes?

Twiztid, to the forum. Personally I believe the Cherrypickers Guides are worth the money. There are a LOT of different varieties out there. The different volumes cover the different US denominations

I have the 4th edition vol 1. I got it for the cents that are in it but I hardly ever use it. I use coppercoins.com way more and other web sites as well. IMHO, I think I should have bought a coin with what I spent on the book. John1

The Cherrypicker's Guide is hands down the best all-purpose variety reference around. Volume 1 covers Half Cents through Nickels while Volume 2 covers Dimes through Double Eagles. The Breen Encyclopedia does contain more information but it is a $200 book that has been out of print for over 20 years.

with bio, Its a collective source in two volumes listing most major error and varieties, if you're serious in collecting these types, it should be in your reference library.

My CherryPickers Guide's have paid for themselves many times over, and where else can you find a variety that you knew nothing about in your collection, be valued at $500 instead of $35 w/out the variety... It's also a must if you want to cherrypick varieties not listed on TPG coins at coin shows...

I also agree with bio. I use them daily in my coin studies. I will agree with John1 about one thing; if you are going to limit your endeavors toward just Lincoln Cents, you can save the money and simply use coppercoins.com, which IMO is the most complete tool available for Lincoln varieties. And, it's free!

I've tried to use coppercoins alot, however I seem to always get a not found error when I click on something within the site, so it's been pretty much useless to me thus far.

I sort of agree with not bothering with one unless your really going to use one. I've got one and only opened it once. As already noted for the money it cost I too would have rather have purchased a coin. However, if your into selling coins, then books like that one are almost a must. Since I don't sell coins, not much use for many books I've got now.

I have the strike it rich book and it is good but we always need more, I plan on investing in the Cherrypicker's Guide but there is nothing like a good website to reference and this one is as good as any other: http://koinpro.tripod.com/
