After 16 days and no sign of a coin I purchased on ebay the seller kindly refunded my money. The coin was to travel via "Letter Post" from the Nottawasaga Bay area to just across the border in lower Michigan - 230 miles. We have an agreement to notify one another if it shows up at either end. Is there a reasonable chance the coin will still arrive? Perhaps some of you folks have experienced similar delays? TJ... I have seen coins going cross border take up to 6 weeks... If customs decides to hold it they just do it with no notice at all... If after 30 days its not there then I would wonder...

Quote: Is there a reasonable chance the coin will still arrive? short answer, yes. but not being trackable you have to add in the element of fraud/theft.

Absolutely! And it's a darn shame. Sorry, watching the debate.

I have only had one coin go missing in all my years of ordering from the US.
But considering how often something comes through without being tagged for taxes, you have to figure the packages/worker ratio is massively higher in the US to Canada direction.
Easier to check everything the other way.

I've shipped and received hundreds of packages both ways. I agree 30 days is a reasonable wait, after that presume it MIA. btw only one package went missing to Canada.

I wouldn't panic just yet. A first class letter will often take 10 days or more, a package 2-3 weeks if all goes well.
Also the Post office is going through a restructure just now that is effecting delivery times within Canada let alone mail from another country.
A hold up at customs is also another big possibility. I think you will see it show up before too long.

Yesterday I got a US pakage posted on Oct 2. The ebay sale date was a few days earlier for a total delay of about 20 days. Just customs I think.

I haven't sent a lot to the US but the few I have sent letter mail seem to take 3-4 weeks before I get an acknowledgement of receipt. And roughly the same for the ones I've had coming the other way.

It is not customs. it is the Canadian postal system. it is soooo antiquated , it is a bad joke. it is the old story: NO $$$$ for modern equipment or to improve efficiency, BUT tons of millions to pay for fat cat , fat butt pensions and salary increases.. and for union demands. case in point, a fact: on Oct 10 a EXPRESS letter was mailed to me from Toronto. same day, coincidentally, another regular letter was also mailed to me from Toronto.I received the regular letter on Monday October 15 in my rural mail box. I received a card in my mail box that says : attempted delivery on Tuesday october 16.. your mail can be picked up at this xxxxxx address on Wednesday october 17 AFTER 13:00. express delivery? NOT !!! Canada post convenience? YES! do they really CARE? nooooooooo My rural mail box is approximately 200' from my home..... Since I know the mail carrier, I called him and asked about it. His words: for some time now we are equipped with GPS devices that show the office WHERE we are at any time. that is why I can not knock on your door anymore and give you your mail. ( he used to just simply stopped and dropped it off. So, he carries the mail with him to the rural box, knowing that unless I just happen to come by when he fills the boxes, the mail goes back to the main distribution station 30 KM away. he leaves an : "attempted delivery" notice in the mail box. (the tracking system shows DELIVERED!!!I have proof)_ then next day it goes to a local postal station to be picked up. service? absolutely NOT. I rest my case...........

one more item. i have received regular mail from the US within 5 days. registered mail usually about 15-20 days and interesting, the special international priority, never in less that 12 days. USPS blames Canada Customs.. however, Canada customs has a policy o 3 days or less....., usually same day continuance

I live in the NYC area. Depending on where in Canada the shipment originated, it's taken anywhere from 4 days to 1 month to get to me. I usually don't start worrying till about the fourth week.

For some reason I have a lot of BAD luck shipping coins to the U.S. from Canada. About 50% never seem to make it to their final destination via regular post! Don't know why this is, but I figure there's a lot of U.S.P.S. employees that must collect coins.................... Glenn

We have yet to "lose" a shipment to the US via Canadapost or the USPS. One out and out theft that was documented to SF area, we had a tracking number so no problem. Also years ago sold a lady a coin in New York state she received it 9 weeks later..........USPS sent it HONG KONG via Phillippines !LOL!! All said with the amount we have done mail order and ebay very satisfied with all of the postal services involved. I have been at this a long long time!
