I just picked up and attributed one of my new 1878s Morgans. It has the spike in the eye similar to VAM 73 but the reverse is different... also the obverse is sprinkled with many small die chips and the spike on the eye is a clash if held correctly.

I looked through all of the other broken,r, broken stars and did not see it.

Okay, I know. You want pictures...! Will see if I can borrow camera again.

Read about making macro lens out of a Pringles can. Will be buying Pringles tmw!

You're killing me here! You need to get a digital microscope ... they can be had for under $50.

Are the digital microscopes clear enough? Do they have the resolution necessary to see the details? I read about them on the photography section and looked like reviews were mixed.

currently, I'm borrowing my ex-husband's camera, macro and tripod. It is extremely nice, idiot-proof and I am still having horrible time with pics!

Kellyk,

If you want a complete obverse/reverse photo with exquisite color balance a digital microscope isn't for you. On the other hand if you want to zoom in on a 1mm die scratch between the eagle's wing feathers it's "Da Bomb". It works perfectly here to capture details (close-ups of the date, mintmark, letters and other small features). This is really helpful when someone here asks for a close-up of an area. Most of my detail captures these days are from the microscope.

The best way to get help with attribution here is to post a pic of the complete obverse and reverse, along with close-ups of the discriminators for the series (for the 78-S it's the 'r' in Trust, the 4th right star, and the tail area).

Hang in there I can tell you're picking things up fast.
