My father gave this coin to me from a friend of his a long time ago. I'm just wondering if it's a fantasy coin or if its real?

I forgot to mention that I'm pretty sure it is pure silver based on the sound test and the fact that it is not magnetic.

That was a nice link, nancyc.

Chinese coins can be tricky even for the experts. There are also a plethora of counterfeits out there.

It's late and bed time, so I'll just say that I have quite a few problems with this coin. A few issues that jump out immediately are:

* Hu-nan did not produce any dragon tael coins (as referred in nancyc's link) for Kuang-hsu.
* The photo appears to be a cast coin (as far as I recall, the taels of the Kuang-hsu era were all milled)
* The left-right Manchu words in the middle identify the Hu-nan mint, but that mint did not use top bottom Manchu identifiers (they are unknown to myself).

If anything, the coin resembles the Hu-peh silver dollar than anything.
