A gorgeous BU coin with almost full lustre.

However, they're still quite common even in this condition.

See http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/farth.html for the value.

I'm not really a grader but I'm not sure it's BU. Looks like it was photographed in full sun which is not necessarily the best lighting to snap coins. In a BU I'd expect to see more detail in the (KG5's) hair and Britannia's robe. For sure we would see the full cross on the shield.

I'd try to take more pics in different lighting.

I was making allowances for a poor scan, however, the farthing being smaller than the penny has a less detailed design.

I see a perfectly good cross on the shield.

There is (I've just noticed) a suspicion of a verdigris spot above the ear.

Red brown or something like that I think. Not sure how to assess it though.

The color looks right, maybe worn die, maybe I am wrong. 30 - 80 percent original copper color is what I would call RB.

PS. I do not buy red coins because unless one keeps them in nitrogen they will eventually be RB.

I think it's almost BU. The hair on all George V's bronze and silver coins was poor design, weakly struck and wore away very quickly.

Incidentally, the farthing and threepence is even worse than the rest of the coins, probably their size reduces the space available for the design.

It's very difficult to photograph or scan the obverse so that it shows up all the hair detail.

I've often bought undergraded coins from people (not experienced dealers), that aren't aware of this. The US and Canada are great places to buy George V.

The colour is right for red BU, but it seems to be very weak strike. The definition in Britannia's legs and the King's beard is not there.

Haven't seen this post in awhile but yes it is hard to photograph, I use my phone camera but have to use a lower mega pixel setting to meet the 100kb perameters for pics. I'm quite positive it is BU its much more red in person I had to shoot a darker pics to try and get some more details but in hand I don't see any friction marks or signs of wear. Thanks for all the replays!
