Can't be a delam because it's a plated coin,looks like a struck through to me. John1

I did not realize that plated coins could not be a delam. I was wondering why I was still seeing the copper plating and now it makes perfect sense. Thank You John1!

Could be a rim burr or extra planchet material. Struck-in metal is the answer.

Struck through (not retained), sab probably has it right with rim burr.

I wish someone would clear this whole "de"lamination vs lamination error up....Im almost positive it is "lamination" and not "delamination"....
Also...are the above posts saying that there are no Lamination Errors on Zincolns?

Quote: Also...are the above posts saying that there are no Lamination Errors on Zincolns? That is my understanding. If it is a plated planchet it would have a plating issue, if it is a copper planchet it would have a LAM issue. John1

lamination= layers of alloy separating due to internal flaw but still attached
delamination= detachment of those separated layers
Laminations/delaminations can occur on Zincolns but they are much less common than on bronze and nickel alloy coinage. A lamination on a Zincoln would involve the zinc core and not the copper plating. Based on the appearance of the I, I would say this one is a struck-through as the middle portion of the I would not be as indistinct if it was a pre-strike delamination. The edges of the affected area are also quite sharp, indicating that it did not occur before the coin was struck as striking would smooth those edges.
