Poll Question
HMMMMMMMMMMM, listed below is a list of criteria that most Collectors use to make their decision on whether or not to buy a problem Canadian coin! We've all seen them before, authentic Canadian coins that are: cleaned, pitted, corroded, rim nicked, whizzed, holed, tampered with, etc. Now the question is simple: " Do you ever buy Canadian coins that have problems"? There are 13 possible answers listed below, let me know which best suits you! (my answer would be # 6, however, everyone is different in their opinion and I respect that) Glenn

I will buy one if it has been dipped or lightly corroded... IF it is discounted (this discount can go to extremes, like my AU dipped PEI cent for 4 dollars)

Well my answer would be a combination of a few, mainly if the price is right and the eye appeal is there and I feel I can eventually resell it at a profit.

I am sure that plenty of people have bought "problem" coins. I have a couple cleaned coins in my collection. Bought these to save money. They look good and I don't have deep enough pockets for the much nicer coin. I have started engraving coins and purchasing a "problem" coin is no big deal since I am going to alter it anyway.

If the price is right, play ball.

like the others, price/budget vs rarity/appeal
rim dings dont really bother me (not talking hatchet marks!), cleaned and re-toned is ok to.
but then again I am not collecting MS coins. circulated is circulated, they all have 'problems'
holed... NO, never

As my experience (especially with ebay) grows, the number of problem coins I buy gets fewer. Dipped a bit is OK, anything else is a no-no for me.

I think "if the price is right.." is a wishy washy answer. Anyone would buy pre-68 silver at face value, no matter the condition.

I also think that is for example an 1890 h Canada 50 cent showed lest say in VF to VF+ but has a some small defect and can be aquired for less than 50% that all you guys who are adamant of NO PROBLEM COINS FOR ME are not going to jump at this extra rare coin ? or say an 1894 same thing maybe an 1870 NO LCW common guys key dates like those would be snapped up in a heart beat especially if you need it....
SURE I know the comebacks..Its better to wait to get the perfect coin...LIFE is to SHORT and these babies seldom ever surface... lets all be 100 % honest here..

I will buy a problem coin (in my experience, that most often means cleaned) if the price is right. I am talking circulated coins here. MS coins would be different.

I buy them for coins that I cannot afford to buy a nice example of. For most coins I hold off for a problem free coin, however I know that there are a lot of coins out there that I will not be able to buy problem free for a very long time. So for those, I don't mind spending if the price is right in order to fill a spot.

Senex , I was speaking in general not at any one individual ..I would highly doubt that a true collector would pass up a major key date for the right price unless there is extreme damage..And at that I have also seen coins that are butt ugly damaged and due to rarity they still fetched a heavy price.....

For my twoonie core collection: the best I can get.
But I also collect errors (not really a collection, just a parking lot of trading bait for interesting twoonies when I don't have the cash). Each error is unique in its own way, so "problem coin" is not a problem.
