About 75gen/25not gen.

The seller (Simon) is a young enthusiast collector
When he was Buying for his collection he received
extensive guidence from some High Profile collectors.
He is not the type who would knowingly run a scam.

I'm not convinced that the item is as stated, But.
Damned hard one to find in any grade and worth a nibble.

There's no way this seller would misrepresent an item IMO.

it was more the coin rather than the seller. I remember reading (somewhere) that these coins were often mis-labelled because the double dot variety was prone to die fill.

Your reading on the Net was most likley

http://www.thesandpit.net/index.php...920dat_penny

The listing was In my opinion poorly constructed.

Far better images were required to be able to satisfy
oneself that it is what it's listed as.

He would most likely email you better reverse images.

I agree that this seller is very legit (I just opened another envelope from him with 6 more wins) and I bid on many of his variety coins.
Currently I'm the high bidder on this coin and if I win I'll update on the coin.
I agree that the .// penny is often mistaken with the more common .//
At least 2 of the other 4 .// pennies on ebay are .// (if you see a .// penny with a die clash then it almost certainly isn't a .// penny but a .//) as I have scores of .// and hundreds of .// pennies and have only seen the die clash on the .// (the majority of .// pennies have 1 to 3 die clash marks between the NN).
There are about 10 die marker diagnostic markers on genuine .// pennies spread over the obverse and reverse (most need very fine louping to find)

Ended at $46. There just seems like a little too muh wear/damage in the dot region to be able to confidently say its a dot or not. Did anyone here buy it? Maybe it is more obvious in hand with a loupe?
