$2 - the first time that this denomination has been used as a commemorative. released in several formats - including NCLT. in my opinion, an egalitarian government would ensure that enough of these are minted and distributed, so that every Australian can hold one in her or his hand. sounds similar to something that our Canadian friends did a few years ago. http://www.news.com.au/national/rem...226503425666

Im excited I thought it wasnt going to happen. The mintage is very low (5 million). Would be worth geting an armaguard bag or two me thinks.

I think it might be worth hanging on to a few, even though it does say a minimum mintage of 5,000,000. It would be a little unfair to produce such a limited amount of such a nice coin.

I'm pleased to see this commemorative released - the non-coloured circulating version is a clean and simple design which lends itself to the smaller size of the $2 coin. The only disappointment I have is that, even though comparisons are made to previous Canadian releases, there is no actual genuine "circulating" coloured coin. While the RSL will be selling the 500k limited mintage variety for $10, at this price the clear intention is that it would be kept as a memento and not be likely to be circulated - as such, I think it would be more appropriate to classify it as NCLT. http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/noti...20121026.cfm

I doubt we'll be finding any of the coloured coins in circulation. I think the headline "THE first coloured coin ever produced by the Royal Australian Mint for general circulation" is wrong. But hey, its not the first time, and won't be the last time, that journalists have got it wrong.

What was also of potential interest was the following note:
"The theme is also a great introduction into the ANZAC coin program that the Mint will be introducing which will include a number of themes featuring on both circulating and collectible coins."

I picked up one of the RSL ones today. Looks like it's stuck on the card with glue or something.

We seem to have a 0% RSL presence locally. Be nice to pick up one of these sans-glue, otherwise I'll just have to be content with RAM's "C" mintmark NCLT variety...

You can buy them online from the rsl. I got mine from the QLD branch. $10 each and $5 postage per order.

Today is Remembrance Day and I too have not seen a coloured Poppy $2 not for want of trying.
I did see Poppy sellers a few days ago with all manner of excuses about why they didn't have and never had the $2 coins. Yesterday in Adelaide City there wasn't a seller in sight (I even asked at the info centre) and the RSL headquarters front doors were firmly locked. I've ordered a couple of coins from the Qld RSL but they have not even been shipped yet.
So what's happened? Distribution of this coin has been poor. At a sellers stand in Melbourne a friend of mine was told that ALL the coins had been shipped to Qld, the rest of Australia seems to have missed out.
I'm all for donating to the RSL but after today who is going to pay $10 for this coin apart from collectors? How are the RSL going to "sell" the rest of these half a million coins if Remembrance Day has passed.
