Quote: Today is Remembrance Day and I too have not seen a coloured Poppy $2 not for want of trying.
I did see Poppy sellers a few days ago with all manner of excuses about why they didn't have and never had the $2 coins. Yesterday in Adelaide City there wasn't a seller in sight (I even asked at the info centre) and the RSL headquarters front doors were firmly locked. I've ordered a couple of coins from the Qld RSL but they have not even been shipped yet.
So what's happened? Distribution of this coin has been poor. At a sellers stand in Melbourne a friend of mine was told that ALL the coins had been shipped to Qld, the rest of Australia seems to have missed out.
I'm all for donating to the RSL but after today who is going to pay $10 for this coin apart from collectors? How are the RSL going to "sell" the rest of these half a million coins if Remembrance Day has passed.
I agree the distribution of these is a joke. None sent to other RSL clubs or even military bases in the rest of Australia. It would have been better if they were sent to post offices or CWA people Australia wide as well as to the RSL. That way there would be more of a chance of getting all the 500,000 donations. And why not send some to the coin dealers around the country (with a proviso not to hike the price) . I think the first ones of these to hit ebay will sell for ridiculous amounts and that will prompt collectors and dealers to buy the rest of the coins from Qld. As these are our FIRST commemorative $2 coin they will be highly popular amongst collectors given that there are 2 versions of the coloured coin and a non coloured circulation coin as well. All low mintage's

I just peeled one off the card today. It's glued on. The glue is like the stuff that bank/credit cards are stuck to letters with but it was a bit firmer and stickier than that. It was harder to get off than I thought it would be.

Just wondering if anyone's been brave enough to try a bit of acetone on the glue, or is that likely to take off the colour print if you're not careful?

Hmm.. I got my 2 from a dealer in the Brisbane CBD. They are the RAM package though. Mum got her two, which are the RSL package, from her local post office. I guess the distribution was a bit hit and miss.

I used a cotton bud to wipe the obverse with acetone and was careful not to get any of the reverse.

The sad thing is, with the apparent difficulties in actually obtaining them, it could result in a reduced likelihood of similar releases in future due to them not being considered a "success".
If they'd been made as widely available as the poppy's there would have been a substantial amount of additional exposure, and they could potentially have sold out. I'm just wondering how many are currently left unsold in comparison, or were there fears that the coins could go "missing"?
@Mr T Sounds like a plan!

The whole thing is a shambles,I've been in contact with various RSL bodies, both local and State, and what a mess, you really can't blame them I suppose, just not set up to distribute a coin or handle the enquiries and demand.

Thanks to enworb's tip, your best bet (and online no less) is the QLD RSL website.

I tried an order for 5 coins. That is what I have on order from local RSL (but haven't heard from them yet). Postage was quoted at free for regular post or $5.00 for registered. That seems very reasonable.

I have been in the Perth area for some little while now, normally I am a Sydneysider. If I was back home just now, the local Seven Hills - Toongabbie RSL is just 10 minutes walk from home, and I would be silly enough to stump up the $10 to buy one of the 10 million mintage.
Interesting, because I haven't been a strongly active collector of Australian coins for about 20 years now; I am into ancients, World coins and anything unusual.
So I have to ask a question: Can these be obtained from the local Post Office? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Something about how the Australian soldier got to be called a 'Digger': When the Australians landed at Anzac Cove in April 1915, it was discovered that the locality was heavily defended. The soldiers were instructed to carry out the landing anyway, and to 'DIG for their lives'. The area inland was only sparsely covered with vegetation, and the Turks held all of the high places overlooking the landing, and could get ranging machine gun fire over the whole of the landing area. It is somewhat of a miracle that that landing and some territory inland was held for 9 months, before the British High Command decided on a strategic withdrawal.

Many thanks to yourself & enworb, got an order through yesterday but the site crashed early this morning and is still down(10am). It looks like Qld. RSL have their act together,NSW was hopeless.
