Anyone who goes metal detecting should try this! It works.. I took my detector to a field near me which held car boots up until a few years ago . Wow. After 6 hrs I found a 18k gold ring ,126 coins and two old medals chained together. Not huge value but time flew. Makes a change from spending hours and finding nothing

Like a yard/garage sale only held in a cold muddy field without adequate drainage or sanitation.
Anything between 20-100 vehicles with everyone either selling the contents of their attic, or stuff they've bought at a previous boot sale and subsequently discovered to be junk.
And of course, we can't get enough of them.

UK car boot = US car trunk

Sounds a good idea. I have been to quite a few boot sales looking for coins or banknotes. So far all I have found is rubbish, or overpriced rubbish. But I live in hope of finding that 2nd 1954 penny....

I got some great bargins from car boots - but I think those days have gone now as the internet has opened up everyones ability to value stuff so great deals are rare. Detecting on the sites is a great idea.

It is now a field full of Pikies and Eastern European's.
At one time it was a source of interesting bits as a seller/buyer.
Now we get pit bull crosses etc overpriced breakfasts and the smell of giro's.

Peter - although I'm not quite so...uh, unPC, I agree. Last time I went to a carboot sale, I couldnt buy something because the seller didnt speak english.

The deals still come from families selling their stuff, just weave about and hope the swarm hasnt taken all the good stuff (when I last sold, before I could even get a table up, someone actually OPENED MY CAR DOOR and started rifling through the stuff, pushing stuff out. They didnt speak english either, so I had to go and pry them off of my car. It was scary, people stole stuff from me. Next time, I will lock the doors and tell them to shove off so I can set up in peace.)
