Yes, from my perspective, the I and to a lesser extent, the T appear to have doubling on the RH side. probably just my screen. I still am amazed that you picked it up for that price. Very nice coin.

ttkoo - Please don't verdicare that halfcrown from 1931, they were half copper and sometimes biscuited, so the silver wears off (Think like a Timtam, the chocolate is licked off and you are in the biscuit part below).

Just the luck of the draw, its still nice. The 1887 has a nice criculation cameo and an honest piece. Comment removed due to recent events.




This is the shield obverse debuted in 1887 for the 6d and shilling. They did a rapid backtrack with the 6d though, as some unscrupulous individuals gold or brass plated these coins to pass them off as gold half sovereigns (10/- or 20x as much face value), so back to the crowned wreath like the 1885 below!



Here you can see another creamy coin - this is goodVF and the 1887 is AU and I am over the moon as I now have 6 really nice Victorian sixpences!

My first Elizabethan sixpences finally! I love these as for some reason the 6d and 3d got numeral dates in her reign but not the other coins until 1600.


1587 - dated and 5th coinage, mint mark Crescent - VG to Fine, blackened and usual wear. This is fierce and old. From the year Mary Queen of Scots lost her head.



A 1590 - 92 Sixpence (Undated last digit, but hand mintmark dates it to 1590 or 1592 (a 1 would be thinner) - cleaned and worn (Good - VG) but very historic and some portrait of the Queen.

Straight away I have doubled my 16th century coins, added my oldest dated English coin (Other than mintmarks) and got 171 years before my previous oldest sixpence, that is a good day.

At your suggestion, I will hold off with the VerdiCare, though it is IMO very innocuous.

The sixpence is great. Once you get into hand fashioned coinage, the pieces seem to have a much stronger story to tell. Again you've done really well. Congrats.

What an odd day it is.

Princetane - nice additions. I also love Elizabeth I sixpences, partly because they are dated.

Gainn - one of my earlist coin memories is when my Mum was driving me to school in her Mini and the car broke down. She had to call the AA but only had a florin - she went into a nearby hotel and they changed it for her, giving her 24 brand new 1967 pennies! In those days you needed four pennies for a local phone call. After the AA fixed the car, my Mum gave me the pennies she didn't use. I still have a few of them today!

NumisRob - Great Story, reminds me of getting a shiny new 50 cent coin in 1985 in my lunch money change. Of course I was only 9 and could not keep it more than a few hours (Kids).

I brought a couple of other coins, but the sellers photos are bad, so I have to wait for them to arrive.
