Oh man, oh wow. I feel your pain.

Perhaps Miss Liberty was captured during the War of 1812 and subjected to torture.
She never broke and never gave away the secrets of the Americans.
Defaced and abused, she was a true patriot.
She wears her battle scars with pride.

Still, so sad.

No, I don't think it was the 1812 War, maybe the Civil War.

OUCH

I opened this link, and winced as two identical lacerations appeared on my own face. My eyes stung with the trickling blood, and I tasted it, salty, on my lips, as I mercifully went blind.

What would a coin like this go for undamaged?

These are very_darn_tough to find in a completely "righteous" slab, between corrosion and all the other things which could have happened to them in more than 200 years. Completely original, it's probably a $4000+ coin in this state of wear. They only very rarely come to market, with or without Details grading.

A real shame but it is still carrying a hefty price tag.

Thanks Dave. That is a shame to see such a hard to find coin damaged. Does seem to be a hefty price tag considering but doesn't sound like buyers have many other chances to get one

Coin World values a VF20, which this would easily pull if not for the damage, 10,000 for the vine edge or 12,500 for the lettered edge. Both run around 2 grand in AG.

VACookey was in the bathroom when I opened that link. She thought I had seriously hurt myself from my exclamation. THAT should should be a crime punishable by 20 years with no parole.

Those wounds look like they have been there for quite some time.
