Poll Question
I know that most people hate change and that new things can take awhile catch on and become accepted, so I didn't want to jump on the "Shield Cents are Ugly" bandwagon when they first came out. Heck -- I hated the new "big head" colorful bills they introduced awhile back and complained they looked like Monopoly money, but now I'm totally used to them and don't mind them at all. It has been a couple of years now, though, and I have to admit the Shield Cents still look really ugly to me. I know that the shield design is supposed to evoke the classic shields used on the 2-cent piece and the Shield nickel of old, but they just look like play money in my opinion. Is two years too early for them to have caught on? Or are they really just a bad design? What do you think?

I never thought they were ugly in the first place. Could they have done better? Maybe. But they could have done much, much worse.

The design itself I kind of like, part of that may just be because its knew, but I do think its down fall will be that it will get old pretty quickly. Compared to the new nickel however the new penny looks like the greatest design ever made

I like the shield reverse. I didn't at first, though. Also, if this was the 1940s where pennies were used daily, they would not have lasted very long, as the denomination is the highest point on the shield.
Additionally, I don't like how Lincoln's bust has once again went low relief after the high relief issue of 2010. But oh well. Could be worse!

Well, check out all of the proposed designs for the 2010 cent. http://2010lincolncents.com/2010-li...n-proposals/Some were worse, some were better. I don't know why this design was chosen for the simple reason that there were several others that were better, but it's not the worst. Some of my favorites include LP01, LP14, and LP17. Others like, LP05, LP10, LP11, and LP18 are just dreadful.

1 is my favorite too. 14 would have been the better choice over what they went with, lately the mint appears to just be picking what every will be the easiest to draw

I agree with baseball about the new nickel (eww!), I kind of like the shield cent though.

I do kinda wish the present shield had a wreath around it, in the style of pre-Memorial cents.

I don't mind the shield cents but #1 and #14 look like they would have been better to me. I wouldn't mind #11 if they did something with the flag in the background (make it waving or something...).
