Hi Everyone,

I picked up an interesting coin at an estate sale today. On the front it says, "Continental Curency 1776" (notice the misspelling of currency) and "Mind Your Business" in small letters and on the back it says "American Congress We Are One". I looked on ebay and most there say, "Copy" on them. This one does not. It is somewhat heavily blackened by some sort of tarnish except on the raised wording areas. I assume from handling. It's 1.5 inches across.

Some pictures:

Any ideas on this coin? Any value?

Thank you!

Here are three links which will give you more information on your Continental Currency coin:-

http://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coi...in_coin=3789
http://www.coinfacts.com/colonial_c...l_dollar.htm
http://www.ehow.com/how_5970126_spo...cy-coin.html

On some genuine coins the word 'currency' was mis-spelled as 'curency' which makes it all the more difficult to separate the countereits from the real ones!!

In this day and age all replica coins should be stamped "COPY." However, shoulda coulda woulda! This coin certainly has the granularity of the very common cast copies. And I believe you are showing us the casting seam around the edge.

In doing additional research, the "R" by the 1776 stands for Replica. :(

Thanks anyway guys, I appreciate it. It was fun to dream :D
