I think you will need to post a larger photo/scan so we can have a good look, the latest batch of Chinese fakes are exact copies so its going to be extremely hard to tell unless you have the coin in hand, set of scales etc.

I dont know enough about these coins except that its something I definitely wouldn't buy online. Almost essential to buy from an ANDA dealer IMO.

"EMPEROR" looks a bit wonky to my eye but there are others on the Forum with more knowledge than myself.

Is it for sale on ebay?

If so, assume it is a fake. I would estimate 99% chance that will be the case.
I would love to have one of these but, after researching them on ebay for several months, I would not buy one there.

I agree with Jeff. I've thought about getting one of these as well. I'm willing to take a risk on ebay for a lot of coins, but not these (a favourite to fake).

Two ways to pick these.

1. Comparative ring tone test against a known genuine florin. (does not have to be of the same type)
2. Comparative visual examination with a 10xloupe alongside a known genuine Centenary Florin in the same condition. Find a dealer who has an equivalent coin for sale.

You could attempt to get it TPG'ed, and that is a worthwhile approach if you live in a remote location.

I put these in the same category as the 1930 penny and 1923 half penny.
They have ALL been extensively faked and If it isn't from a reputable dealer or "god forbid" slabbed, then I personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot stick.
I personally have no love for this design, But if you have to own one the only sure way of getting a genuine one is through a reputable dealer or a slabbed coin with a number you can check on the TPG's website.
You can check the coin photo from the website against the coin in hand/for sale and see if it is the same one.

So my advice is if this is listed on ebay don't walk away RUN

Since it was Roxburys and they are a founding ANDA member, you'd near reckon you'd be safe ..... 100% refund if not happy.

Have a good look at the listing
They say they have been dealing in coins for the last 20 years in the City, Then why have they listed this as a GOLD coin.
I know it is probably a typo But if they can't get a listing right then how can you have confidence they have taken due care to make sure this coin IS genuine

Ahhhh Trout, you make my day ....

Yeah, you know the annoying drop down list boxes etc that have the contents therein saved when you create a selling template in ebay ....... the culprit I'd imagine

List Boxes
----------
Era
Composition
Region of Origin
Country

Check Boxes
-----------
Mintmarked
Pattern
Proof
Set

Missed it last night - too much competition ,I'm still not confident buying this particular coin but my limit was $500 but it went for $568 and was probably still a bargain

Well, that looks like might be the 1%!
Foundation Member of ANDA and one of the principals is twice past President of ANDA.
Would have to consider that as a good recommendation.
