Thanks for the heads up. Is there any agency to regulate such abuses?

The seller, sullyscoins has built up an impressive list of negative/neutral feedbacks, most stating "overgraded" - and a LOT over the past three to four months. http://www.toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/neg...=Received+byI think he had another "grading company", CSI. Private auctions, lousy feedback, serious overgrading, deceptive slabbing... this guy is bordering on fraud. I've seen his name before, but I can't remember nor find the context. No regulatory agency on slabbers although a few have been brought up on fraud charges.

There are several companies that all started at the same time using that slab shell. The shells are sold by Certified Silver Institute (CSI) and they did slab coins for at least awhile under that name. I am not sure if all the other lookalike companies using those shells are run by the same person or not, but I would say it is highly likely due to similarities in the label designs and language in their ebay auctions. (Plus the fact that they tend to be grouped together in those ebay auctions.)

Brandon, welcome to the forum! There's a lot of friendly people here and the collective knowledge and experience is encyclopedic.
I hope you didn't get burned too badly on the 01-O Morgan. You may have to write it off as a lesson learned, but not to be embarrassed since all of us have been similarly hurt at one time or another. It comes with the hobby although it shouldn't be like this. Eventually, sullyscoins will get what's coming to him, preferably behind bars - we reap what we have sowed.

While these basement slabbers are truly a shame, they are an excellent source for some steals for a set. Most folks recognize the bad grading and will not bid. As long as you automatically take 3-5 points off of the grade, and study the pictures carefully, these bottom dwellers can sometimes be a great source. But of course they are not for the faint of heart. You ABSOLUTELY must realize that the money spent will be for something graded less. I bought from Sully's before, and I asked for extra close-up pictures. He had a high graded Morgan I think, kind of like Brandons example, and I paid high AU money for it. It was a legitimate 63 I believe. He also sent me the wrong coin at first, and immediately shipped out the correct one prior to even getting the first one back. At least he's an honest sheister.

FYI - ebay does not monitor feedback. Feedback is entirely for the bidders, so watch it carefully as ebay won't kick someone off just for their feedback. The only thing they monitor is the amount of "disputes" someone has. So if you have trouble with a seller ALWAYS file a dispute. You have a better chance of getting them kicked off ebay if they don't settle it with you.

Morganator, welcome to the forum! As a fellow Morganphile, you'll find you're in good company here! Back in the early days of ebay (I joined in 1999), three negative feedbacks and the member was out. S/he could rejoin under conditions but was carefully monitored. Or, s/he could rejoin under a completely new ID with no connection to the old ID (different name, credit card, address) as is quite common these days. Fred

I particularly enjoyed reading his sales "conditions"
"All grading is subjective. Different grading companies have different policies. Please look closely at the photo to determine if you wish to bid."
While not being entirely untrue or bad advice, it should say our assigned grades mean nothing. This one really got me though...
"All disputes will be handled in the venue of the seller's home office, in the Mat-Su Borough, Alaska."
aka if you have a problem, don't bother us.

Myst, that's in line with a sign my old gas station boss posted back in the 60s when I was in college. "Our company problem solver is Helen Waite. If you have a problem, go to Helen Waite."

Here's what all of sullyscoins listings give as a disclaimer: By bidding on the item you agree to the following terms and conditions. Seller reserves the right to not complete the sale and refund the buyers money in full; if for any reason the items were incorrectly identify or is no longer available to complete the transaction. All grading is subjective. Different grading companies have different policies. Please look closely at the photo to determine if you wish to bid. Most Numismatic Professionals advise to buy the coin and not the grade. Seller shall not be liable to the buyer for more than the purchase amount. All disputes will be handled in the venue of the seller's home office, in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Alaska. You agree to accept service of legal papers by USPS Express mail. By bidding you agree to the above.I asked him: Does the ebay user agreement say that you can invalidate any sale just because you feel like it? I don't remember reading that one. Doesn't give me much confidence to bid on your overgraded coins if you're not even going to sell them to me.
ThanksI'll let you know if he ever replies...

You agreed to that with ebay too. If you sue ebay, you must do it on ebay's home turf.

The slab shells are sold by Certified Silver Investments. They also slab, or at least did slab, coins under that name with the initials CSI. http://www.csigrading.com/
