Poll Question
Just wondering. I've noticed some people list what pre 1960s they find in rolls and boxes, either in details or just a general tally. Do you keep them? Toss them back?

Personally I don't at the moment unless they are in good condition.

And I am not talking about coins like the 50Ds. I'll take one of those no matter what condition it is in!

Poll Choices
Keep every one, no matter what grade.
Keep all that are in a certain grade.
If it isn't silver or low mintage, toss it.
 Other. (Explain Below)

I keep all of them, no matter what the grade. I figure I can always go through them later. No matter, they are still worth the nickel I spent on them. Some of them are also low mintage like the 1950-D. Mintage numbers for the 1950-D was 2.63 million, while the 1949-S and the 1950-P had mintage numbers just under 9.8 million and the 1951-S and the 1955-P had numbers just under 8 million. Compared to today's mintage numbers, I think they are worth keeping. Just my opinion.

I keep all of my nickels, regardless of date. My excuse is that I want a nice hoard my son can search through some day, but the truth is, I am getting ready for when the quit minting them.

I said certain grade, because some are completely destroyed. Otherwise, keep, sell, trade

I was keeping everything pre-1960 but then backtracked and am now only keeping those with a mintage under 50 million. It's really for my son to go through more than anything, buy if they are ever worth more than face value that's an added bonus.

A composition change in future circulating Five-Cent coins will cause the current 75%Cu/25%Ni Nickels to disappear rather quickly.

Remember, some people hoard all Nickels simply because their metal value hovers around their face value. Finding pre-60 Nickels right now might be "the good old days" quicker than you think.

I also save 1965-70 Nickels in Fine and above.

I am doing mostly the same thing as jbuck. I always kept all the pre 1960 nickels and silver war sorted separately. I also started keeping all years rolled and stacked in old ammunition cases a few years back for the eventual metal content or mint discontinuation change to take effect.

Recently I started releasing the newer "ugly obverse" ones back into the population for no reason other than I dont like them.

I know, I'm OCD but I'm fine with that.
