In case some of you plan to have the coins graded by NGC... http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewart...jA1Mjk5MTES1Canada's first gold coins from the Royal Canadian Mint will receive a special NGC label and pedigree. See submission instructions for more details.Much excitement surrounded the recent release of 30,000 vintage Canada gold coins by the Royal Canadian Mint. (Click here to learn more.) Struck from 1912 to 1914, these $5 and $10 gold pieces were the first gold coins minted in Canada and have been stored in the vaults of the Bank of Canada for 75 years. To honor this special release NGC is offering a unique Bank of Canada Hoard label and pedigree.

Quote: Anyone think these will ship before the end of the month? That would be nice, but I imagine it would depend upon multiple factors falling into place when expected. There is always the possibility of some unexpected delay. I'm really looking forward to receiving my order, but won't be surprised or dismayed if it stretches into the new year. But really hoping to get it yesterday

If we all STOPPED buying anything before shipment of ALL of our backlogged purchased, you bet.
They'd have plenty of staff doing nothing.

Quote: Anyone think these will ship before the end of the month? Odds are better that the Mayans were right and there will be no "end of the month". It's really incredible. The mint had to hand select the coins before the sale. Thus they had to have sorted and you'd expect, packaged them in order to know how many of each to sell. So, why is there any delay? The shipping date on the sales receipt says Dec 28. It doesn't make sense why there is any delay between selling and shipping but I would not be surprised if it's late January or February before these got to customers. Gotta be the boxes and clamshells.

Quote: Gotta be the boxes and clamshells. I would suspect that obtaining packaging materials from suppliers probably accounts for a lot of the delays in deliveries from the RCM. Of course, as of now, there is no reason to expect any delay in the deliveries of these coins. We await with anticipation

@Agrenier Thank you for the "heads up" on the special slab I like it! Reminds me of the special NGC Carson City Silver Dollar slab. For anyone not familiar with that one, try a Google search for: carson city gsa hoard Just have to find out how to go about submitting (and cost).

Sorry if I was unclear. There is already a built in delay of one month. They didn't have to mint the coins that were ordered. They had to handle them to 'select' them before they were ordered, thus there should be little or no delay between release and sale on Nov 28th. Yet, the RCM built in a full month giving an initial ship date estimated at Dec 28th. One can only assume that they needed the month to prepare the packaging of the coins. What surprises me is that they didn't sort, select and package before selling. Then the shipping could have begun on the first day after they were released and sold. They waited to sell the coins and then ordered the boxes? That's great planning. Of course it's unrealistic to think they are going to work for a month packaging, and then ship them all on Dec 28th. IMO some people may get them late this month but most will get them over the next month or two.

My guess is that they pushed the sale of the gold coins, so as not to interfere with the promotion of the holiday coins.
