On a related note: I just received the Moore Feb 2013 auction catalogue today, and here are some of the "estimates" for certain grades:
1914 $5 ICCS/PCGS MS 63 $3500;
1912 $10 PCGS MS65 $14,500;
1913 $10 MS64 $9000, MS63+ $4,500
1914 MS62 $1800

I have seen ICCS MS-60 graded coins sell for melt on the coin show bourse, especially on a Sunday around lunch time, when the dealers are itching to starting packing.... same goes for NFLD gold coins in AU grades. UWO, you can get a better picture if you turn off the flash. The flash is reflecting off the capsule.

Earlier on in this thread, many people were talking about getting their 1912-1914 gold coins professionally graded. I have a 1912 $10 coin that was not a part of this Bank of Canada hoard released by RCM and would like to find a better way to display it (right now it is just in a plastic coin sleeve). I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who will not have a use for the mint packaging (ie. capsule and clamshell) after they have their coin graded and inserted into the special plastic holder? I would love to buy the capsule and clamshell off of someone who may not want it for their $10 coin. Message me if you may be able to help me out in my quest to find more suitable presentation packaging for my coin. Thanks. |

@Shannoxt, I'm in Vancouver and awaiting my order, and if I do grade mine, you can definitely have the box if you buck up for postage.

I think the (capsules) for those coins are HOLOGRAM.
I would not sell the capsule or give it either.
My 2 cents.

@ marty: My understanding is that the hologram seal will be broken if a coin is removed. I have no interest in trying to use this packaging to make my coin appear to be from the Bank of Canada hoard. I couldn't care less if the hologram is destroyed or removed from the capsule before I receive it. I am only interested in the capsule because I know that the foam insert is the exact size that I would need to keep my coin secure. I have no intention of ever selling my coin but rather would like to be able to display and appreciate it more now and to be able to pass it on to my daughter at some point when she is older. I wish sometimes we could put our distrust of humanity aside and understand that not everyone on this planet is missing a moral compass.
