Drove an extra 10 minutes today to dump $100 in dimes while on my lunch break today. I try to keep the bank nearest to my work as a buy bank.
I had them all rolled for the bank too. I get to the teller window, slip them through the slot, and the teller starts to open a few of them to make sure they have dimes in them. He opened one, and then didn't close the roll up very well, because when he laid it down on the counter, many spilled out. So he gathered them up.
Then he opened a second roll, pushed a few dimes out... but then he he tried to pushed them back into the roll he wasn't supporting the bottom and all the dimes spilled out on the floor and counter!
After spending a few minutes gathering them up, he then tried to put them all back in the roll (after I politely asked him to make sure all were there because they asked me to run my card, and I knew I'd get shorted if any were missing), and he ripped the roll. Tried with a new roll from his drawer, and ripped it again. Finally he puts it aside and said he would do it later.
Got my cash, and I left (after a huge line had formed, the other two tellers were dealing with customers who were swearing that the bank had made errors with their accounts and were not taking no for an answer).
Oh well, LOL.

Your story makes me very pleased that my bank has a free coin counting machine ... Dump the coins in ... wait a few seconds ... and an accurate tally results every time. David

I go to the same bank and try to deal with the same teller every time. After many trips she now knows me and knows that I am careful with my counting before they go into the rolls. A new teller questioned me once because the rolls " looked different " from each other. She intervened and told him. they were fine.
I have a sorter/counter/roller machine at home, but my OCD makes me count the coins before I put them in the machine :)

I've got a credit union with a free counter. It's nice. I set up an account there to hold onto my roll-hunting cash and use it as my dump.

I belong to only one bank, but there is a branch of it a few miles from my house, as well as one a mile from my college. Neither accept unrolled coins, so I reroll them and bring them back to the bank near the college. However, I do have a very large amount of coin rolls that I have been trying to use up for some time now, so I don't mind. And the bank does give me free rolls when I ask for them, so its not an issue.

Just move to the NE... TD banks all over the place here in the Philly area. Some branches even have two counters in their lobbies, lol.

My bank has a counting machine behind the counter. Every time I get a box of something, the teller gives me a few plastic bank bags to throw the non-keepers in, then I return with my bags of loose coins (to a different branch location, of course) and the teller dumps them in the machine. It's wonderful to not have to roll them. :)

My primary bank recently removed their counters. They said maintenance and repairs were too costly to justify keeping them in service. So, I'm back to rolling the coins. Since I normally get them in rolls I just put them right back in after checking, replacing any keepers of course. Not that big a deal, at least at the volume I search.

I used to bank at NFCU in San Diego, they had one you could walk up to, dump your change in, and your bank account got immediately credited. Haven't seen anything like that up here. Any suggestions on other banks that have those machines?
