So recently I bought a 1993 silver Eagle on ebay. After I got it in the mail I decided that, although it's a beautiful design, I was kind of bored with it. So I took it in to my local coin shop and traded it away for this:

Please forgive the quality of the pics...I just took quick snapshots with my iPhone. It's a 1913 German Saxony 3 Mark. So anyway I don't know a lot about this coin or the battle that it commemorates, but I'm gonna learn. Isn't that one of the reasons we collect coins, anyway?

Cheers!
Mike

It is a nice coin but I think you may have come up a bit short on the trade. That coin is valued at around $18 or so. But if you are happy with it that is all that really matters.

The coin is probably to celebrate the centenary of the Battle of Leipzig in which Prussia (Germany) played a prominent part.

Checking the closed auctions on ebay for that coin, the average selling price is closer to 30.00. So I would say you didn't do to bad. At least this coin has a little history behind it, The silver eagle was just a slab of silver.

that saxony 3 marks looks great! its one of the harder ones to find in VF to EF condition

Depends on what you collect, since I collect 3 and 5 mark in this era 1900 to 1920 known as the German states and that 1913 drei mark looks good & a lot more interesting than the silver eagle which is easier to find
