What does the KM# mean?.. Is this the catalog number for each type of coin? Are the KM #'s shared or are they for each individual coin from every country.? (I am confused about this KM#) or is it the 'grade of the coin'?
I am sorting the few World coins I have and I have decided to collect one (1)coin of each denomination of all World countries. Can someone direct me to a site which list this info? Thanks, mila_

The KM# is from the Krause catalog of coins. First you will need to know the country of issue. eg the KM# for US Lincoln cents from 1909- 1942 is KM#132, 1942-1943S is KM# 132a and 1944-1958D is KM#A132.

Mila, I believe the best site online for pictures and KM#'s is http://www.(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed / Don doesn't have every coin but a much larger collection then I ever will. I'd also recommend purchasing this book for starters 2007 Standard Catalog of World Coins, 1901-2000 It will list every single coin from every country in that time period as well as KM# and prices based on coin condition. -GO

KM stands for Krause & Mishler, who are the publishers of the World Coins book. And sometimes instead of "KM" the letter listed is "Y", which stands for Yeoman, another coin book publisher.

Mila, If your thinking of buying a KM catalogue, consider this. KM's 2005 book goes from 1901-2005, in 2006 they published a separate 21st century only book. The 20th century book from 2006 onwards only covers 1901-2000. Also these books are not cheap, an older one would also be cheaper. I bought one recently through Abe Books for US$26.00 + postage. Good luck. regards,

Thanks muckeye
I didn't even see the dates for the book I listed. When in doubt...don't listen to GO.

Why spend all that money on a book that is probably out of date when it is printed? Go to your library and borrow it. Steve

Good advice Steve, if you live in the big smoke. Out here in the 'sticks', the nearest library is 30 minutes away and their edition of Krause is 1993 and is a reference book, cannot be borrowed. The next one is in Toowwoomba (150 Ks) I thought $26 for a 2005 edition was good value. regards,
