At the 'Asyn School of Grading' it's definitely a RED, possibly a specimen.

say what you want about the asyn group, they sell over 10,000 coins a month with nearly perfect feedback, and are making money at it.

if you're looking for a coin (which I admit will likely end up being over graded) they usually have it available at a reasonable price along with a zero questions asked return policy and free shipping (if you do send something back you are only out one way shipping).

no I am not related to asyn in any way! I just dont get why everyone is so negative. he sells coins (LOTS AND LOTS of coins) to people who collect coins... some people (more than you might think) collect without putting everything under a microscope.
asyn has hit a (very large) target market. don't hate.... congratulate.

Wade...I hear you loud and clear.

We wouldn't get on Asyn's case if he just stopped it with his 'ms65' grades on a coin that's about 6 grades lower.

He should just show the coin's picture and that's it.

We'd leave him alone then.

wade - I've heard that if you return something to him, he blocks you from future bidding? I wouldn't really call that no questions asked, if it is the case.

And just like with the rest of his coins, there was a time when this coin was the grade he lists.

The products I do buy from him, I make sure I know what it is. Although I do give him credit on his paper money.

.

i suspect in the early days it was one or two people who handled the listings & photos. now with 10,000 sales a month (20,000? listings?) there is no way one person is handling everything. I could see them using stock photos rather than the actual coins, and descriptions getting "muddy" as it is no longer a single educated coin collector doing the work. (i AGREE 100% with the other posters that +5 or +6 grades isn't "muddy", it's more like a black hole).

it is even highly possible that software is handling 99% of the listings and MS65 is the default in the database (to go along with a stock photos). I've seen some pretty slick script that allows someone to ebay using a drop shipper. you can list 10000 products and never see the product, handle the product, talk to a customer or even worry about payment. just sit back and collect a tiny % for every item that sells. it wouldn't be terribly diffcult to apply that method of listing to generic coins (99% of asyn's 'drive thru' business)

I've returned stuff to them before without issue. I emailed first, was polite, and waited for an "OK". if soneone is getting blocked it is possible it is (a) extended staff members now in charge of returns / change in policy (just like the listings) , (b) buyers having a hissy fit over their 99 cent purchase, or even (c) automated software blocking buyers after the refund is issued.

I sell quite a bit on ebay. I may use descriptors like "has seen very little circulation" or "has a moderate amount of wear" but I never give an outright opinion on numerical grade. When 5 different bidders can assign 5 different grades to the same coin I know someone will be disagreeing with me. So I avoid setting myself up for ridicule.
Of course, if there is a flaw in the coin which can't be seen in the pictures, it will be mentioned.
