I always want a large silver coin, but only the the penny one is above the issue price now. I am also interested in the new beaver and Cargary Stempede. So, do you think they are worth to buy?
Or just buy a "Australian 2012 Silver Dragon 5 oz". only $208 at https://www.canadianpmx.com/Products/Details/158
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

if got spare cash, buy the design you like and don't look at the numbers

if looking to sell in 5 years, go with bullion (Australian, Fiji Taku, etc.) or look for devalued NCLT closer to spot.

@uwo.. Those Australian 5oz coins are bullion coins with *unlimited* mintage, so that is not a fair comparison (bullion vs NCLT). Here is a page with their actual mintage from the past few years: http://www.perthmint.com.au/investm...intages.aspx

@uwo: it is all depend on you and what you want out of it?
If you want it just for investment and silver contents, it is better to spend the money on 5oz Bullion coins or bars.

As for me, I wouldn't buy a 5oz Beaver or 5oz Stampede because they don't hold any significant meaning to me. If I want a 5 oz coin, I would buy a 5 oz Dragon or Takus. Instead of buying just one 5oz Stempede coin, I can get two 5oz dragon coins for less than the price of one 5oz Beaver coin. That being said, I did buy a 5oz Penny because I liked the look of it and it has some meaning to me as it may be the only time that I can own a 5oz Penny. If the coin doesn't appreciate or the silver price don't go up, that's fine because I like the coin. Others may feel the same about the Stempede and beaver coin.

was at the Brampton coin show yesterday, saw the 5oz. beaver coin looks much better in hand, very impressed with design a little too busy in background. agree with Lostwords if 5oz. penny does not increase in value the rest of the 5oz. coins will have very little chance to appreciate. the other note is the very limited mintage

Yeah I've noticed lately a number of posters have trouble communicating in English like canuckIus and canadiancoin, these two communicate in French and seem to struggle with English posts. Evidently English is a second language to some here. It is difficult to understand them, but I encourage them to keep posting, hoping their English skills improve.

uwo- if it were me I would buy the US 5 oz. They have a nice proof finish and currently are selling for $183 @ JCS gold. Because of the bigger US market, it is easier to dispose of when you need to cash in.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions! It's very diificult to make decision. The 5oz beaver is sold out at Canada Post now. Do you think it going to be like the 5 oz penny?

This is just my personal opinion.. The 5oz penny was an hot item right from the beginning, dealers raised the price within a day if not immediately, a lot of ebay listings were ended higher than release price.
But for the 5oz Beaver, most of the dealers like J&M, CA and GW are still selling it at release price ($519.95), I couldn't find any ebay completed listing with a price higher then the release price. So I think you could see which one is hot and which one is not.
BTW, if you really like the 5oz beaver, CA have 26! in stock, selling at release price, and they are running a free shipping promotion for this coin as well, and you could pay by paypal. Just FYI and this is just my 2 cents.

I said it a few times but I'll say it again, I am not sure who buy all these 5oz beaver. I did another quick search on ebay and many of them goes unsold if the asking price is more than 519.00. You usually can get a sense from various forum if everyone is buying. But from this forums and other forums, I only see people posting they have no interest in the 5oz beaver.

I purchased both of these 5 oz coins. I think the penny one will hold its value but I love the design on the beaver one. I have no intention of selling either one.
